I want to say thank you to all that replied to my post. I appreciate each and every one of your replies as to what to do. Since my post I have found a school and placement afterwards, and it does require team driving for the first 6 months and people keep putting their two cents in here saying oh your going to hate it , don't do it, but I looked and looked and I decided on this one and I feel comfortable with it. It will not bother me a bit, I am definitely a people person, and tough as nails so I am going for it. If I find out it was the wrong decision then I will tough a year out then change. Anyways thank you to each and everyone of you!!!!![]()
Need good advice

Good for you.. Depending on what company you decided to go with there's a good possibility they have female trainers.. 6 months will fly by in no time at all.. Good luck to you and welcome to the truckin world

Well, I guess I'm a bit late. I like your post. I was going to recommend you look into driving a tanker. If you're going the path least traveled, why not?

Being she is a completely NEW driver, I think it would be best that she starts out pulling dryvan or reefer 1st, get use to driving with weight in the 75-80k lb range, tanker takes more exp just like live stock does then pulling dryvan or reefer.. I couldn't see a company hiring her to run tanker with her just acquiring her CDL and having no exp at all. She can always get her endorsement later down the road to see if thats an avenue she'd like to take. Just my opinion.. -
Solo definitely the way to go. I can usually tell in my first few days of orientation whether or not a company is going to be the right fit for me. Also before I attend orientation at any company I usually talk with one or two drivers from that company. This has saved me a lot of time. The important thing is to do your research about a company before you sign up.

The most reliable info comes from drivers who are currently employed with a company. In my opinion the first companies a new driver should consider are those near your home (which improves your chances for getting home just enough to not go crazy) or companies where you know current drivers. Google trucking companies with yards near you are the nearest big city. Then ask around here and at truck-stops for drivers that work for the companies you find. Ask them your questions. Then compare those answers with what that company tells you.
