Hello, I'll start off with i'm fairly new here. I've kept up with this site for a couple years and just actually joined not too long ago. I have grown up driving any sort of equipment and even driving semis for the farm since I was a kid (got an actual CDL about 8-9 months ago) I believe i'm in quite a pickle at the moment and need advice. I currently own a paid for freightliner classic with 500 cat 10 speed and a 40' fixed neck lowboy (you can kinda see it in my profile pic). I bought this equipment to haul for my excavation company and it's been great up until recently. Work around me has just dried up and i'm having to look at other options. First off i'm only tagged for intrastate in MS for 80K, i've been thinking about going for hire and transporting equipment and what not with my current equipment (I just don't have quite the cash flow to bust out and buy a 53' trailer right now). The issues i've ran into are #1 the insurance is crazy high compared to what i've been paying. #2 Honestly do ya'll think I could make enough running just intrastate with a day cab and my 40' to cover insurance, fuel, etc. etc. #3 I signed up with a couple of loadboards just to kinda take a peek at what is possibly out there for me and every load i've seen for flatbed says 53' trailer... What got me thinking about my current setup would work is all the flatbed stuff I see around me running down the roads and the load is only 7-9' long give or take. I could haul palets of some sort, metal, equipment, etc. I'm just trying to get honest opinions before doing anything. I've even thought of going to work as a driver for our local towing companies that have lowboys and do what i'm wanting to do just to get the "on paper experience". Any advice will be much appreciated. I'm sure I forgot something and this turned into a little longer than I wanted but thanks in advance.
