I have read that insurance companies have the trucking industry by the groin regarding hiring of drivers. Insurance companies frown on those that have not held a steering wheel for more than six months even. One year is still kinda tight, but for sure two years and it is refresher time.

I read a post on TTR of a guy who claimed he had 27 years experience. When asked why then he was at a bottom feeder, he just sadly stated that he could not get hired on anywhere else despite his resume with years of experience.

Dude, it ain't brain surgery. When I did it, I think I read the book twice and then took the test. IIRC I got something like a 95.

Just read the book. Then read it again. If that isn't enough, read it two more times. Of course this only works if you can read it and comprehend it. Is English your first language?

The book is not going to teach you how to drive a truck. You learn that by being behind the wheel.

Really? So after 30 odd years in this business, you are telling me I've been doing it wrong?

I have been in the industry now since 83.. I am in management now, but drive a truck still pretty regularly. I also would have to go to a refresher or even a complete driving school.. Blame the lawyers and the idiots who sue anyone with what they say is deep pockets. It's a liability issue.
