You are going to need recent experience. As said above, if you drove trucks in the military that might work. If you can't show recent experience you are most likely going to need to find a carrier that will send you out with a trainer. You can still have a great career, but you might have to go out with a trainer.

There are more... That's the one that came to mind, as I think they've had it the longest.

A quick search shows that PAM, Knight, Roehl, Averitt, CRST and TMC are also VA-approved for apprenticeships. Out of those, I'd probably rank them as Averitt, Knight, Schneider, Roehl, TMC, and CRST/PAM tied for last.

If I'm in your shoes, I'd take what I can get. The truth is, very few CDL grads get what they want right out of school. It's not impossible, but not likely. It's kind of a slippery slope on here because if one was able to go local, or get the job they coveted, then they think everyone can do it. I'm not a fan of the "If I can do it, you can do it" mentality. Everyone is writing a different story. Besides, Chinatown has some good options. Some of those companies would be on my short list, if I were looking. If 6 months is all you need, that will come and go. In fact, a year is better. Then your phone will be ringing off the hook because the whole industry will be wide open to you.

China, I’ve watched this site a while and you seem to have a lot of good information. Bare with me, I’m 59 and retired from a career. I’m finally getting to a place I can commit to OTR. I have 10 yrs experience but it’s been 20 years ago. Paul Transportation is local to me here in Tulsa. They seem like a good place to work for.
Do you think they would be interested since my experience isn’t fresh? I’ve got no problem going through a training period. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
