Boy this one ventured way off to left field huh?
As "owner operator team" (use the term loosely), you should be clearing @twice what you were when "things were good".
You are getting screwed, plain, simple and honest as that.
Give them their truck back, go buy your own from a dealer, move on with life.
One thing though, and it sounds like you are going to repeat past mistakes, dont count on one or two peoples opinion of how much they earn etc. It takes a big person to admit they screwed up and tell friends that they did. Do YOUR OWN research on a company and go from there. I could tell you I grossed @$220k running solo last year, but what good does that do you? I haul oversize etc, so no good for a team operation really, but at least it gives you an idea of what a team operation should be grossing in their own truck!
Leases are total BS, plain and simple for the most part.
Buy YOUR OWN truck and go on with life.

okay I will explain when we first started he was doing it solo with me next to him doing the paper work. about a month ago I got my cdl and started driving. My husband is paranoid to allow me to drive much so I don't before we met I drove fuel tankers for the military for 3 1/2 years he never saw me drive till recently cuz he didn't trust me till I went behind his back and got my CDL. Now he has no choice to let me drive once and a while when he feels like it.

As for getting on the bad side. we where in the process of purchasing a house and they found out about it. When asked by the company about this they said "so your buying a house on contract"

What!? You didn't just type that did you? WTF is the carrier doing snooping in you bus? It's none of his business what you do with your profits off the deal. You need to tell him so too.

Now, if he's trying to starve you out ....you could always trip lease.....

    Gawd !

Look, your company has no motive to screw you or give you bad loads. They make more money when you haul good loads, way more money than trying to screw you out of your truck. They can go buy other used trucks cheap, there is no mint to be made by getting yours back to put somebody else in. Sure, they may be playing favorites a bit while freight is slow, but it will pick up. There is no way they are going to intentionally put you on bad loads when good ones are available, it's throwing money on the ground.

I have always had pretty good luck with just being a yes man and hauling the crap with the cream. Try to find positive ways to negotiate, rather than negative. When you get a good run, tell them you really appreciate it because things have been slow. if you're going to be negative or whiny, choose your spots carefully. If you get a super crappy load tell them, "I know you need this load hauled and you can count on me to get it done, but please try to find me something better the next couple weeks so I can make it up". From what I've seen drivers who attempt to bargain on every load and complain every time they go in the office don't hit the A list too often. If you feel you've tried everything and are really getting mistreated, request a meeting with the big boss and take some hard numbers with you. Tell him/her you want to stay with the company, but if the numbers don't pick up you will have no choice but to look elsewhere. I can't imagine why any company would let a good team go without trying to work something out with you.

thank you so much for your info. as for do the homework I let him do what he wanted this time cuz it was his dream and now that, that has fallen though I have been doing the research myself. I found a thread on here about Mercer and it seems to me a pretty good company I have also googled the company to see if there was anything bad about them. So as of thus far I have not found anything bad about them and everything I have read and have talk to other drivers that I have met in truck stops have told me nothing but good about the company I have even had a few drivers show me what they have made for a couple of weeks. The thing I like most about the company is when you book a load you get paid half the load then and the other half after you have delivered and scanned the BOL to them. You also get about 30 cents saving on fuel with them as well

there is a problem with that cant trip lease with them the contract states and I say this word for word "This truck and trailer must remain leased to COMPANY until truck and trailer are paid off in full" "If any controversies arise the ruck and trailer must com back to COMPANY as when bought or agrees to pay the cost to get them back the way they were when bought.
