I have to agree with Moosetek, 42 is still young, but this is not the same America as it once was decades ago. Just look at all the older people in service industry jobs, the only places hiring and the only jobs mostly still available.
Costco, if you can get in, is to me the very best paying retail job to get. They start off with a higher wage, and base raises on time employed with the company.
Give Fate, Destiny and Chance a try, see really where they want you to be. The doom sayers are saying, this is all going to come crashing down sooner than later. During the last recession I had a retail job paying only $8/hr. It wasn't nothing, but I didn't starve either. I met all kinds of drivers laid off from all the freight LTL companies telling me how they put in app after app only to find out they where among usually 50 people a week applying for jobs that nobody had.
It's better to make a dollar, than to sit and still have nothing.

I'd look for small companies. The ones that Chinatown mentioned will probably take you but there's an old saying.. " I wouldn't belong to any organization that would have me as a member ". I think it was woody Allen... Anyway, find a small company that probably doesn't pull a DAC and PSP. Or find an o/o to team with. Good luck and Godspeed

Maybe Fastenal in Lakewood or Gardner by Olympia,or pull containers or TriPak in Tacoma. Most big companies are OUT,probably for 5 to 10 years.Hope this helpsOONewbie Thanks this.

If you have any interest in hauling wood chips, you could check out Walsh trucking or VCT. Both have terminals in Tacoma. It's local, home every day. I would recommend aiming for VCT over Walsh. I worked for Walsh for two years. VCT has better pay and insurance. Hauling chips is a pretty good gig.
Just not sure how they are with someone in your situation.OONewbie Thanks this. -
Isn't Interstate Distributors, and System Transport up your way?

FFE either has a monster deductible or self insures so pretty much does what they want. At least they did a couple years ago. There are more out there that do the same.
I think FFE has a terminal in the NW. Should be listed on their website.
