Good advice here. 8k is not enough at all. Thats about how much I started off with back in March. Everything was going good the first 2 months. Making big checks, nice truck, living the dream blah blah blah and then everything went downhill. I screwed up on a load that cost me $4500 and then I got really sick. Got back on the road and broke down 3wks in a row. In those 3wks I replaced air leveling valve, A/C system, torsion bars, shocks, drag link, reman CAT air compressor, and idler pulley and other stuff. Put me in a hole. Im so behind on bills now and my family is tired of lending me $$$$. I just want to crawl under a rock now. Lol. What did I get my self into? My company is pretty fed up with my problems and im close to losing my job. Hate that wife and kids have to suffer because of my decisions. Finally started rolling. Getting loaded in ga headed to Chicago. Hopefully everything gets better right? Trying to stay positive and pray. Can someone make me feel better on here and tell me I'll be ok lol. #### I want a beer so bad. So yes 8k is not enough. Have $$$ aside for breakdowns and down time. Pay cash for a good reliable truck if u can.

I tell people now that ask me if they should be an independent o/o that they should have 100 grand in the bank and be willing to lose it all if it goes downhill, like it does for many ...

Is there a good source for Renting Dry Van's or Reefer Trailers? I'm interested in becoming a O/O. I can secure financing for a Truck, but not for a Trailer as well. I'd rather not Lease onto a company. Is there much work for a O/O with power only? Any one have experience with "One Way Trailers"?

What other costs do you like to look at besides for those fixed costs? What other costs do you track?

I know this reply is really old. I don't even know who will read this. Switched companies the end of 2014 and finally I had the truck running good by Feb 2015 and all of a sudden at a rest area in Arkansas while I was in the truck. It caught on fire and burned to the ground.
