Thanks guys for the follow up info. I went to the local unemplymnt office today and filed for an appeal for unemplymnt because the wia counselor told me that is one of many requiremnts to get the wia grant. As rich t said it must vary state to state or unless you fall in the right place at the right time like broken spoke did (u lucky dawg)!!! Anyway here in kentucky all the requirements are as follows: obtain 5 "help wanted" ad's stating there is a demand for cdl jobs with wages. Fill out a resume with previous employmnt. Get a copy of your MVR for the past 5 years(it says on this paper i got today no alcohol or drug related incidents, no at-fault accidents, and no speeding violations of exceeding the limit by 15mph or more). Pass the TABE Test with a 10.0 score. Bring in a copy of termination letter from previous employer. And finally, Bring in a copy of high school diploma (ged) drivers license SS card. After they check all of that of the list you then get "permission" to take the DOT physical & drug screen at your cost. So really not so bad, just got alot of items to get and have copies made to more less go to school of YOUR CHOICE FOR FREE! Now thats a heck-of-a-deal in my book. So to sum up my situation as of now, if i lose my appeal which i try n not have my hopes up for this time around i can file for one other grant she told me today. And romans you very well may be eligible too. Its called a "Dislocated Workers Act" its similar to the wia grant as far as applying for except you dont have to be receiving unemplymnt benefits to qualify. Now there may be more red tape to navigate thru but as iv become to learn quickly thats just part of the process to success. Godspeed my friends. Til next time....good luck in everything.
Need help getting my CDL

I have been wanting to move to Hamilton for some time now... I'd hate to have to go OTR just when I get up there. you know what I mean?
Here is my dilemma right now. I need to figure out whether I should A) go up next week and make sure the funding and paperwork are done ASAP for WIA, or B) spend two more weeks down here, work another 2 weekends, and catch a free ride up when I help my friends move to Hamilton....
(Addition)
Been thinking about the flatbed "skateboarders"... Saw one company on craigslist looking for flatbed drivers but they want 3 months exp driving flatbeds.. You guys know an decent companies I might look into?Last edited: Jul 9, 2010

WIA funding isnt available... (I qualify but they dont have funding atm)
Really not keen on Swifts 22 month commitment....
Talked to the School and they got me hooked up with Central Refrigeration and one of their recruiters.
Recruiter asked me today when I wanted to start school.... (I said this coming Monday), she said "okay"
So providing everything keeps moving smoothly... I will have my A CDL in a months time! With a one year commitment with Central.
I really wanted to go over the road... just wasnt keen about being locked in for 22 months.... VERY happy with Centrals 1 year commitment!Spacecoast Thanks this. -
Good Luck!

I applied to that schneider school and they told no because i didnt live in the area. Anyone else have that happen?

I can say one good thing about Schneider. My nephew got his cdl with them and when he was called to go to Iraq with his reserve unit they paid him for so many months(not sure how many) Ofcourse after he came back they fired him about 6 months later over a minor fender bender...lol
