The guy where I park the trucks, tells me that I dont need workers comp he has his own authority and trucks, the guy told me about this forum. He said all of his drivers are contractors and he pays them on a 1099 as I do. He has drivers working for him and someone else at the same time. He showed me a paper that he makes his drivers sign every year that said they know that they dont have workers comp. can I also do that?
Need help making it work

There are people who do that ... 1099 contractor thing but be careful cause they are cracking down on that .. You need an accountant / attorney for that one
-
You could but I don't think id recommend it. If anything does happen that paper doesn't mean your drivers can't take you to court. It just means they know your not providing workers comp.accidents DO happen I wouldn't drive I didn't have workers comp, your injured, no work no money. No workers comp, no money. No money, no honey
-
Well I pay my drivers my 1099 but still pay the workers comp. I called the state and they said I dont need to have workers comp. but do you guys think buying cheap trailers is a good idea, Ive seem 98 53' dry vans for like $3500 to $4250?
-
Well yeah cause your paying almost 600 a month for theirs plus maint
-
If you do want to buy older equipment be cautious, because of its age and you don't know how the previous owner handled it. Just like a used truck, trailers need to be thoroughly inspected to see if they are not gonna fall apart on you when you hand the money over, and remember safety first

These are retired fleet trailers they have 180 of them on the lot for sale. Does it help that they are fleet owned?
-
Depends on what fleet ... What the hauled ...
Any trailer can be neglected no matter the previous ownerHighway Prisoner Thanks this. -
they are old / near junk status due to whatever reason you would need to inspect them, but personally I wouldn't bother.. they are retired for a reason right?

Thank you so much US marine for all the info. I am going to apply for my own authority
