Unfortunately the type of accident you had is super serious. Imagine if you were in a truck that was loaded to 80k. It could have been a fatal or a suit against your employer putting them out of business.
Even if a company was willing to give you a shot their insurance company may not want to take the risk.
You’re young so waiting a couple years isn’t the end of the world. Keep your mvr clean and doors will start to open. For now imo your accident is too new.

Most 20 year old's these days cant find their way through a parking lot. Learn where to grow that $50K until you clean your MVR up, then jump in the fray! Good luck!Albertaflatbed, dosgatos, Dee1256 and 2 others Thank this. -
20 yrs old with no experience but have $50K and an at fault accident over your head, out the gate you’re probably looking at $20,000-$25,000 if a insurance company will even accept you.
That leaves you with maybe $25,000 for a truck, a decent truck will consume that $25,000 in the purchase price pretty quickly. Yea there’s cheaper trucks out there, but most have hidden problems just waiting to raise it’s ugly head.
Kinfolk always said to walk lightly and carry a big stick. Look before you leap, make some phone calls to insurance companies and see where you stand before you buy a truck…. good luck.Albertaflatbed, TripleSix and Dee1256 Thank this. -
You won't be able to afford the insurance as both a brand new Owner-op and with recent at-fault accident on your record.
When people want your money they will tell you anything, like "now is a great time to go to school for X" or "you'll make big money as an owner-op if you buy our business/legal package". If you ask a barber if you need a haircut the answer is always yes.
Go work doing anything legal until your accidents ages. The reason why you havebto actively do whatever it takes to avoid crashes is because the consequences are bad. Newbies think if they have an excuse for something it's just as good as not having that bad thing. It's not. When you start driving again, you should drive like you are now using your last chance to ever make decent money. Being extra cautious is the bare minimum once you get a CDL. You may even be required to get a refresher course in a year since you have no experience and no CDL work for a year or more after school.
Good judgment comes from experience.

Good drivers are not just drivers that wish to have no crashes. Good drivers see dangerous situations developing and react early enough to not have the crash. Merging traffic is a very predictable dangerous situation.
You can eventually get a CDL job but you may need to wait, maybe even up to a year. Just stay employed & avoid cannabis even if it's legal in a state. Fed regs & drug tests are not affected by state drug laws. I'm not suggesting you already use weed.Last edited: Sep 30, 2024
Albertaflatbed Thanks this. -
Don't buy a truck. You can buy a house for what insurance will cost.
