Yes I know exactly what your saying. I have tried to figure out why he is so high on buying this particular truck. He currently owns a 1999 and a 2002 both 379 petes. I am trying to get through to him that anything built in 2013 is gonna create more issues then what he is accustomed to. Not just Volvo, but Peterbilt, kenworth, international, all of them are completely different animals when you go to the late models.
Crazy Alex thank you. Electrical issues is at least something of substance that I can tell him to look into. I don't think he gets it, he's a older guy and has had very good luck with the older petes. I think a truck like this will remove whatever hair he has left of his head.
Need help Volvo price

Not more than $45K. That's with every maintenance record.
Injectors cups replaced / resealed yet?
EGR valve replaced yet?
When was last DPF service replacement?
The DPF there is no getting around. If it has been maintained, then its been serviced at least once. If it has never been serviced, run away screaming.
The injectors cups are a known issue, if they haven't been done, they will need it very soon along with an overhead. The EGR is the other known issue that will need replaced.
Apples to apples - I know where to get a 670 right now, and I just might, for $37K, 420K miles, all the issues I've listed dealt with and the DPF serviced at 330K. It's a 2012.bluerider and Crazy Alex Thank this. -
A 730 is going to go for more than a 670. Without knowing the model, features, etc a price is impossible. 4-5 year old emissions truck aren't going for much. I saw a '15 780 with 500k miles for 75k from a dealer yesterday. Trade in on that was probably 60-65k. The only way I'm paying near retail on a private sale is if the owner has every record available and has maintenances it properly

I have a friend who is a mechanic for Penske, he told me if I bought a Volvo with DEF on it he would hit me between the eyes with a claw hammer. That's all I needed to hear. Lol
Seriously. He said they were the most problematic of all the DEF trucks by far. -
Look the truck over too. If it has been mostly south and little corrosion maybe it is worth that price, but run 48 and the normal salt abuse, probably not.

thats the main prob he is not propper trained!!
i got more km on volvo as the most drivers in us on a shaker
my biggest mistake was to buy one with a junky cummins isx 2years 30k later and 90% of the $$$ spend on the ##... trany and engineDave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
That's funny. He is well trained, doesn't take much training to see what comes in the shop most often, with the most problems
Oxbow Thanks this. -
I say nay. I had purchased one through Penske, and it no hassles. The DPF was serviced approximately every 180K as a planned maintenance.
The Volvos that had the Cummins engines that are EGR motors are the ones that seem to have problems.
The Volvo's that are pure Volvo's don't seem to have 1% of the issues the ones with the Cummins do. -
I can't argue with the experts. Just passing along what he told me, guess he was lying to me.

Trucks are getting to be cheap again just like 2008 and 2009 when they were dirt cheap. But back then the 2 and 3 year old used equipment was all pre-dpf so much more reliable than anything 2 or 3 years old these days. On the other hand 1999 and older are way overpriced. Lots of 17 and 17+ year old junk for ridiculously high prices.
