as long as both you and the driver swapped paperwork and the companies aware of it you MAY br able to get them to pay directly or get their ins company info do deal with them directly. But if they tell you to screw your basically screwed as you werent on the road legally to begin with. At only 3k the lawyer fees may not be worth it.

You do realize that you will have to file SR-22 and be put in a higher risk category now once you do get insurance again. You can Google SR-22 to find more about it.

If you only have liability rather then full coverage,is it still the responsibility of the person that hit you to pay for the damages? My boyfriend hit a guy at Tyson only that guys vehicle was old so kb said hes probably only has liability and kb wouldn't have to pay for it.This was like a month ago and hasn't heard anything yet.See he hit the guy with a kb truck.

If you do get a check from this guy I would take it and pay your premium in full for a year and buy a can of rustoleum and do an aerosaul overhaul on the passenger side of your car. Not cool to be driving around with no coverage. If you hit someone you would be up #### creek in a screen boat.

Lovely, and now you want to be paid for an accident at which you should never have been at. Just go home, thank your lucky stars you weren't cited and leave the trucker alone, yeah he made a mistake but yours is larger. How low you going to go before doing the right thing?

"It's lapsed and it's happened before" which means you are a "chronic driver that drives without Insurance." If I was the Company or Driver that hit you I would tell you to "Go Pound Sand."

I do not know anything about the op's home state but I live in NH and NH does not require auto ins on pass. auto's. I think it is insane and I would never drive any of my vehicles uninsured but depending on the op's laws in his state he may have not been "driving illegal" I am not taking sides here just wanted to point that out

Indiana does require liability insurance. It was illegal for him to drive the car. They can also suspend his license.

I lived in Massachusetts for years and the same goes therre. I think someone would be crazy to drive without insurance. When I lived in FL it was not required to carry insurance on a motorcycle but you would of never seen me out on mine uninsured

So are you folks saying there are states that dont require insurance, or do you mean there are states that require you are essentially self insured and must prove you have the finances to do so ?
