Philly/South Jersey has an abundance of local jobs. You can literally close your eyes...spin around and point your finger in any direction and you'll find a local job. Only problem is you'll be competing with many other applicants with experience for these local jobs...because of the amount of trucking companies around your area.
The only local jobs that will hire new students may not be the type of job your looking for. Foodservice companies are always hiring because of the high turnover rate due to the physical labor involved...but it is local work though and you'll make REALLY good money. Same with beverage companies as well like Pepsi and Coke. Pepsi in NE Philly hires new students. Coke in South Philly might too. Both are Union gigs (Coke is on strike now...but the Philly plant I think agreed to a 5 year contract). Bulk driver is where you want to be at with both of these companies...but you'll have to work you're way up from being a side loader delivery driver before you can move up to become a Bulk Driver...which is where the big bucks are at.
There's also an abundance of LTL companies around your area that'll hire new students or have a dock to driver program. FedEx Freight in Delanco, ABF in North Philly, Estes in Bensalem, YRC in Bensalem, UPS Freight in Westhampton, ODFL in Pennsauken, A Duie Pyle in Morrisville, R+L in Burlington, etc.
Or go on Indeed.com and punch in local trucking jobs and see what's available. Good luck.

Starting off as a local driver with no experience is not an easy task in the North East. I personally wouldn't recommend it... especially if you're doing LTL P&D. Some of the places you have to deliver to can be challenging...even for the most experienced drivers. Ever see McLane Foodservice deliver to 7-11? Yikes!!! Very tight. Or any of the LTL City drivers making deliveries in South Philly? On a one way street? With cars parked on both sides? Not easy. City driving can be very difficult at times...but for a greenhorn with no experience?...it can be a disaster.
Try looking into NFI in Burlington. They have a big industrial park there and they hire new students. The work is relatively easy from what I heard. Dedicated accounts going to the same place...so you'll have an easier time learning how to drive without too much difficulty. Or if you're lucky...an LTL Linehaul gig. Or maybe apply at DLI Logistics in Langhorne. They also hire new students and you'll be delivering automotive parts to dealerships at night. So there's less traffic to deal with...and you'll be able to learn how to drive without the stress or difficulty that daytime city drivers have to deal with. And then...once you get your one or two years experience...you should be pretty good at backing up and making tight turns to handle city driving in the NE...like LTL P&D...or move up to a more better paying job.PhillyTrucker Thanks this. -

Been to Coke in So. Philly.
It’s in the slums. Everything tight.
Me driving an OTR condo, with 53 foot trailer.
It was “fun” to say the least.
Tightest docks I ever seen. One inch between trailer doors.dennisroc Thanks this. -
