Find someone with an old john deere or massey tractor. They are manual unsynchronized gear boxes. I learned to float plowing snow at work.
Its the pause. Unsynchronized trans requires you to do 2 steps yourself. Thats uncouple out of one gear, dwell in neutral then recouple into the next gear.
If empty take off in 3rd. Gently come up to maybe 1600 rpm and slightly.. I mean two fingers here, tug back against the shifter while still in gear. As soon as you lift off the throttle it'll slip to neutral. Now pause there and with the same two fingers, push back toward next gear. Itll plunk right in when youve got the intermediate and main shaft speeds matched up. No clutch here. Learn to float first. Then you can go back and learn to double clutch. Floating is easier unless the sliding clutches are jacked up.
Watch trucks leave the light and listen to their rhythm, then copy it.

We offer an exciting, challenging and rewarding career with an excellent compensation plan and benefits.
Exciting as going into Camden New Jersey on a friday night. Challenging as finding a spot to park in Boston downtown core and rewarding with a once annual atta boy from dispatch or some office drone assigned to ration out praises.
//sarcasm and some teasing.
I don't mind companies beating the drum and making nice statements like above but frankly boy howdy, you want to be an American Trucker? Whoo hoo you have a adventure coming. -
