My husband is scheduled to start with Millis soon. He's having second thoughts after talking to a Millis driver today. I told him I would try and find the information he's looking for...he doesn't want to jump from the frying pan and into the fire...or another frying pan!

    1. He wants to go out two weeks and be home three days. On that cycle, how many miles are people averaging? If it helps, we live in the Milwaukee, WI area. The guy he talked to said that he never makes the 3000 miles/week; thus, never gets the mileage bonus. Is this typical?

    2. "Other Guy" said there's no short haul or detention pay...true?

    3. "Other Guy" said that dispatchers play favorites and that their friends get the good loads...true?

    4. Are there bunk heaters in the trucks?

    5. How about tri-packs? I know I've read that you can have an APU installed...how much do one of these generally cost? Does Millis charge for installation?

    6. Husband has four years experience....will his truck be governed at 62?

I think there's more....but it's late and I can't remember!! So, let's start here. Any information y'all can offer will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Living in Milwaukee, WI area he lives in about the best area to get 3000 miles a week but i can promise you that he will not run 3000 every week. Freight is up and down depending on what time of year it is. The schedule he wants to run i think he should have no problem being able to stay around a 2500 mile a week average. Also the mileage bonus starts at 2000 miles a week and you get .03 cent on your miles then at 2500 miles it goes to .04 cent a mile and 3000 miles it goes to .05 cent a mile.

They do have regional drivers up there that just run the midwest and also dedicated that all they do is run beer out of miller. Also have local guys that run glass from the warehouse over to miller and also have the spotting service at miller.

Dispatchers do not play favorite but they know who runs and who doesn't and that might make a differance in what loads you get.

Yes the trucks have bunk heaters in them only a few of the trucks have tri paks on them and no they will not let you have one installed yourself. I believe what you are talking about is a inverter and yes you can have that installed but one of the terminals will have to do it.

Has far as what your husbands truck will be set at i do not know you would have to check with somebody at the main terminal on that one. Hope this answers most of your questions if not ask and i will try to help more if i can.

Detention pay is NOT common practice. Certain circumstances may warrant it but he's not going to get detention pay every time he sits for more than a couple of hours. Nature of the beast I guess.

With 4 yrs experience his trk will be at 66mph. That is the MAX mph at Mills at this time. 62 mph is for new students when they get their trks.
Spanky and Bear are correct on the other answers and I must comment on the "other guy". Just my guess.....and I am speculating here....the reason he doesn't get 3000 miles is because HE wants to try and pick and choose his loads or is not dependable or complains about the loads he is given etc etc etc.
Average weeks are 2600 to 2800 miles...sometimes more sometimes less.
Please do not take offense but if your husband MUST have 3000 miles each and every week, then Millis will not be for him.

yeah as far as detention is concerned if millis can get it you will get paid for it. Although you will never get it at glass plants, breweries, beer distributors, menards, and carpet mills.

I average 2800 - 2900 a week. Last week was 3800 with layover pay. A lot has to also do with where you are when lds come in. Don't forget that hitting 3000 is another penny which equals another 30 bucks. Nothing to base a decision on.

As you can see from the others that posted - DO NOT take the word of just one person. There are many on here that will tell you the truth if you ask.

Miles are there if you want them - but as Spanky and Mr.G said - you have to run and run strong. If you dont - you wont be happy here. As far as favorites go - I dont think so. I bet I havent talked to my dispatcher more than twice in over 1 year. However, he sends me the loads and I run it. No questions asked unless I have HOS issues. So needless to say - we get along great LOL! I average between 2700 and 3200 a week. Sometimes more but very seldom less.

Millis is not pefect but they have one of the best pay structures and bonus programs out there today. Take some time and read the forms on Millis. I bet we have answered just about every question you might have.

If not - let us know!
