The 3406E has different horsepower family's. The jump from your 455 to the 475/550 requires iron changes like steel piston crowns, different injectors, and turbo. Are you doing the labor? Best bet if not doing labor yourself is if you want the warranty is have done thru Cat or TEPS dealer. You pay for the additional warranty. Only nice thing is everything they inspect is covered.

    SAR Thanks this.

The 3406E only requires a software flash to upgrade the horsepower. We just did one.

Sure not thinking of later s/n 6nz C15 or C12 or C13. They have same "iron parts" through full HP ranges. Yes, you can flash an ECM to higher HP flashes, but you will end up with cracked pistons or sometimes less power! Cat will only uprate within what arrangement and spec you have. They also check drivetrain torque capacities like previous poster stated.

Trucks been running great for almost a year no problems hauls 88,-92,000lbs. everyday. There are some that you can upgrade the HP with a software flash, BTW the flash was done a CAT in Birmingham, AL.

The key issue for me is that I am going to rebuild it. So it makes sense to put the stronger kit in it for the HP I want to run. I am not going to spend 15K+ here in Canada just for parts from Cat and then screw myself on the warranty by bumping it up with some random software flash.

    Blowcanner1975 and NightWind Thank this.
