I know this is an old post, and I apologize for quoting from it.. BUT...

This is why I am leaving the company I work for. I cannot stand being treated like a mindless droid who will do whatever is asked- no matter how illogical.

Quote from a conversation between me and my DM:

"I know it doesn't make any sense really, but if you were footing the fuel bill you might see why...."

    My response

"If I was footing the fuel bill I'd be at the house already and not dealing with this nonsense...."

    jrboyce83 Thanks this.

    Hi everyone,
My husband has been a trucker since he was 19, he started out in the Marines. Hes been driving for 18 years now. He is a third generaton driver. I seriously think it is in his blood.
He has been a company driver for many years but we are thinking of making the leap to O/O. We looked into several options like Swift, Yellow etc. Doesn't seem like he would be making as much as he does as a company driver with them.
We are seriously considering LS. This would be the first time he would be working for a % of load. We have not purchased a truck yet but are looking. The idea we are thinking is that he of course would be driving and I would primarily be searching for the loads and doing the books.
We are thinking of leasing the trailer or flatbed from LS (haven't decided which one yet).
My husband is a very hard worker who is a go getter. Is LS going to keep us financially stable? That is the biggest worry. I would hate to go bankrupt.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Krista

Thank you for this info, We have heard Landstar pays 65percent of the line haul, but of course you have to have the loads. Most we have talked to love Landstar, one has told us he can never get a load, he ask for it and it is already gone, if they have over hired this could be a real problem and I am not going to lose my truck because I won't make enough to make my payment and My home bills. At least I can do that where I am. Maybe when the truck is actually paid off!!! I run it myself now, and would love to pick my own loads as well, but if you can not get the loads what good does it do to be able to pick your own loads?:biggrin_25510:

Seriously, get your own authority. Landstar can't do anything for you that you can't do for yourself. Outside carriers get more than leased on contractors anyways. Get a reefer and get real pay plus get all of your money by getting a customer. Leasing on to any company is a scam. There are other companies that pay much better than landstar if you just want to do the lease thing. They don't talk on the radio like their scared someone is going to ask them about that company. When they do talk they say the same crap....I hauled a load for 2.50 a mile and I'm like ok so what I haul for at least 3.00 every day. This let's me know that landstar is all hype. Plus I would never lease on to a company that found loads for you....knowing an outside carrier is going to get more for that same exact load, but landstar doesn't have to pay you top dollar cause you're leased on to them. My advice get your authority and take your life into your own hands you will not fail

Yep, we had that buddy come to CRST-Malone. He went back to Landstar after 3 months. He wasn't quite so angry after he grossed 9 grand in a week.

He's asked us if we want to come.

We can also gross 9 grand in a week. We also get 76%.

Sounds like a pretty good gig to me. What's net at 76%? By the way...the agents don't get anywhere close to that figure. Just sayin' for those of you who think we make soooo much.

I don't even make $5,500 a week take home. That's $264,000! I never would have thought Fairview was that expensive. You sure you don't live in Franklin?
