Just submitted my application to LS. I am in the process of moving and do not have my new address or new state license issued-yet.
I understand they require hazmat license as well. I will be getting it on my new license but currently do not have it and the recruiter knows this.
Hoping for the best, but what are chances I get approved without hazmat certification?

    Alex 82Rus Thanks this.

There's plenty of good things about Landstar, but if you're making that kind of money and you're able to have a regular home life I'd be hard pressed the make that move.

Self dispatch off the load board isn't always raindows and unicorns either. It's like putting together a puzzle, especially if you aren't "in" with agents in your area. Can expect to spend hours on end getting appt's lined up, rates, ect only to have the rug pulled out from under you from any one of a dozens things beyond your control and the whole week goes up in smoke.

All things considered I'm happy here. But when people say there's a learning curve, trust me they aren't just blowing smoke.

I THINK, they give 60 days or so to get haz-mat. I THINK. So if they already know this and haven't stopped your app process then you should be fine. They are very picky and probably would have let u know something if it was a problem

They take 35% off gross but subtract the fuel surcharge first. So a 1.90 load with say $.15 fuel surcharge. 1.90-.15=$1.75 -35%=$1.13 or $1.75*65%=1.13 then add the fuel surcharge back $1.13+.15=$1.28 to your truck. On my contract they took 2% off the top so I was getting 35% of 98% of the load.

The ELD was $35 a month you pay to use but they give it to you for free that includes the mileage reports and fuel tax $4 less you you do your own IFTA. They have this automatic dispatch that you put you load requirements into and the Landstar computers will call you email you when agnet post a load meeting your requirement. I was paying $2.50 a week for that but got it when it firt came out. They said if you ever opted out and sign back up you had to pay new rate. So not sure if they ever raised the weekly rate.

Every 120 days Landstar requires the same D.O.T annual inspection everyone does 1 per year. Your truck has to pass or be fixed on the spot. Lancaster pay for the inspection but you have to pass or get truck fixed and you can only used Landstar approved inspection places. Like TA/Petro and some independent shop they approve.
