    Hi,

A good friend of mine is considering buying an '04 Mack with the 460 h.p. Aset engine in it. It would be used to haul and unload chicken feed which would require about 80 h.p. on the PTO for 8-10 minutes at a time. I understand these engines have had cooling issues due to all the EPA components installed.

Is there anyone out there who has operated these engines and would be willing to give us some advice?

    Thanks in advance,

    FredW

As a company driver, I drove several trucks with these engines in them, including running a wet line for a dump trailer and a blower for a bulk tank. They never ran hot while running the PTO that I know of, but they constantly had problems with the EGR cooler and computer/electrical problems. They also got pretty pitiful fuel mileage.

My advice would be to buy just about anything else.
