Need opinions on 08 W900

What type of trailer do you plan on tugging?..
What lanes?
Will you always be hauling heavy (greater than 30K in/on the wagon)?

Some flat....Some rolling hills.....A little mountain....

But you're like me....I'm usually closer to 80K.....

You should get at least 6.5-7........If you run under 68 mph....

 

i drive a 2005 w900 cat c15 acert 475 hp 18 speed 3.55 rears pulling reefers at max gross. I run otr all states. I get consistently 6.75mpg . i cruise at 1300 rpm (55-58mph). I would think maybe cummins isx would get a bit better mpg from what i hear. i know nothing of autoshift, so cant help much with that.

 

Just because you have 575 ponies doesn't mean you use them full time....


My 379 had Series 60 430 bumped to 470.....It would climb the grade to the Eisenhower tunnel with a 48k load in 6th (13 speed) running 20-25 if I was lucky... The best MPG that rig ever got was 5.5....

My 386 has a 550 ISX, 18 speed, 3.23....I can climb the same grade in 12th...sometimes 13th running at 80k gross....I have gotten as much as 8 mpg running the flats of I-40....But if I use all the ponies and run over 75.....MPG can drop lower than 3 mpg.....


The thing is...every load is different....Every lane is different.....

Every day is different......Trying to get 8 mpg for example, every time you run...Is impossible....I don't care what Kevin Rutherford says....It won't happen every time you run.....

 

its governed at 62 mph so i just have to hurry up and wait ! it really doesnt bother me going that speed , im still on time and still get were i want to get to each day. it would be nice to be able to get going a bit faster somedays but its really not that bad.

 

i suggest you learn to drive like an owner operator and not like a company driver.

i would be looking for a 3.30'ish rear gear
