That's what the last owner did. The same thing happened to a guy I used to know with the ISX. If you dosimeter research, there are many ventilated ISX blocks.

Isx engines are notorious for breaking the block and u just are extremely unlucky u can probably get a used engine from hribar in Racine for a lot cheaper than 12 k probably close to half that it probably broke the block right where the oil pan bolts on if the engine is not turning over it completely done beyond repair. Get a used engine and throw it in there or Ask for the price on a short block from cummins which is pretty much block crank rods bearings you're gear train should be good u might need a head but make sure wherever u have it done they don't screw u over for a bunch of parts u don't need and dealer is not always the answer they just overcharge for something u can get done at a good capable shop.

Well, I was looking for a while for such a shop, couldn't find one. Any ideas? I have pretty much the same problem! Thanks.

Why would you pay 12,000$ (maybe 15-16,000$ instaled )for a used motor, after a couple of months may need another one. I would buy the reman ; this motors are sold with warranty 250,000 miles/2 years and many auxiliary new parts; turbo, EGRs, pumps,.. ; Was the reman priced 24,000$ installed? I would consider a Volvo D12 reman , from what I know are better on fuel and more reliable. I was at Volvo in Waco,TX last week , the D12 reman was priced 19,999$ +installation.

I think you are just unlucky. Every truck old and new is risk. Best thing is to get it fixed and get it making money ASAP. I personally would go for the reman engine. Get a Cummins shop or a Volvo dealer to do the install so you get the warranty. The Volvo warranty on the d12 remans are excellent but to convert from a cummins engine to a volvo power plant my not be cost effective. You would need a whole bunch of extra stuff in addition to the engine.

You can buy an 06 volvo for $18000 and have a extra truck for parts. $20000 for a engine in an old truck is INSANE. Build it your self, or if you cant then buy a new one with a warranty. You need to be a full service garage to make money with a used truck.
