Hello everyone I Am in need of some info... i am thinking about going to school to get my class A cdl. I really want to go OTR . I have felonies in the past four of them to be exact they include theft 2, possession of drugs , malicious mischief and bail jumping they are over five years old now . I have some misdemeanors in the past from five to seven years ago. I was speaking to a private school rep and she is stating that it might be my best option to go local. she mentioned that the long haul companies that they send there students to only allow one felony on there record because of insurance reasons . My question is are most if not all the long haul companies like this only allowing one felony on the record ?

I had people turn me down outta CDL training because it hadn’t been 10 years. That seemed to be common with a lot of companies I spoke to back in 2009. If things have changed much since then I wouldn’t know, but your options might be limited.

FYI, Schneider and even Werner were 2 of the companies that told me 10 years. Thank God they both rejected me lol

Carolina Cargo is frequently mentioned in these types of posts. From what I understand, the pay isn't great, and its cost to coast teaming, but you can get experience and use that to get yourself into a better position. Best of luck OP.

As far as i know western express is known as convict express for a reason.

I wouldn't go there with high hopes of striking it rich, but if you make a good go of it you have a foot in the door

Where is your location? There are companies that will hire you as soon as you graduate. We can give you a few names if we know your location; state & nearest city.

Roadtex Transportation hires felons and also has two terminals in Washington.
    Western Express hires felons.
May Trucking Company sometimes hires felons.
    Covenant Transport hires felons.
Carolina Cargo hires felons. Someone that works there in the office recently posted they have increased the pay, but I don't know the details concerning that.

Same situation, my charge from 2007 though and I live in central Florida. Looking at getting in but I have a family to support I'm not expecting to be making a ton right away but a fair wage to start with potential is all I want. I'll hustle and prove I deserve big money over time.

Try those companies listed in Post #7
Living in Central Florida, also look at Florida Beauty Express. Those drivers make big bucks doing California runs. The photo on the left is from a short YouTube video of a Florida Beauty Express truck running through Arizona..

NO i dont agree with it but my boss hires all types of people with messed up histories. the guy that was running my route before i was hired, went to jail violating his parole. he is on the sex offender list. another guy who left my company and went to a construction driving dump truck and trailer gig is on the sex offender list involving a 4 year old girl. i am not privy to the details nor do i care.... another guy received a DWI while working for the company that employs me. i am unsure of the details but he drove for another 4 months while the case was pending, he stalled the courts for as much time as possible. yet another guy that was hired not to long ago spent 4 years in federal prison, i do not know what he did nor do i care.

that's not the point of my post in this thread, my point is there are companies that will hire you. i will continue to work there not because i agree with all of it, that is irrelevant. i have steady work, i am home everyday, a regular route, and gross $1k on around 48-50 hours per week. my route is about as good as it gets for milk hauling, i do not have to visit the plants. i do two drop and hook loads per day, take the tankers to farms and load milk..... in milk hauling thats as good as it gets.

a company like my company has two different types of drivers.... farm pickup that are home daily (what i choose to do) and transport guys that are somewhat OTR.... the furthest they go is NY to Wisconsin with milk loads. they dont do 48 state coast to coast but it would get you out of the house a few nights a week.

there might be a company like that in your neck of the woods. as far as me, its none of my business..... i ignore the baggage other drivers might have. i have a few other fellow drivers that i have become friends with, but otherwise keep to myself. i pick up my farms and go home. pretty simple.
