Any advice for someone who hasn't driven in 5 years. i live in Altoona PA and just took a 40 hour refresher course at Clearfield Tech Center. I was hoping for a home daily job, haha looks like that won't happen. Now I'm thinking home weekly would do.

Just got a call from Western Express while I was typing.

One night in Downey, CA, I pulled out from a bar and realized I was two sheets into. Pulled over and as I did the red lights went on behind me. One cop came up to my window, the other to the passenger side. "What's up?" the one at my window asked.

    "I'm schnockered," I replied.

    "You're what?"

    "I'm schnockered," I repeated.

"Were you pulling over to park?"

"Hell, yes. I mean, I'm really schnokered."

"Will you stay here until you're okay to drive home?"

"I'm not moving if it takes all night."

They actually left me there. About 100 feet from the bar. And I was toasted. I did stay there. No problem. Okay, fine.

Western is a driver mill.. take your time.. a good company might have you ride with a trainer for a week or two. Try Barr Nun.. they have a good hometime policy and started to increase pay on short runs. Plus they run your area.
I know.. a lot of guys are going to jump me for recommending them but i call all companies on a regular basis just to see what is out there and their people are very responsive and quite honest. They dont promise you the moon just realistic miles and good benefits. If i were changing to another otr company they would be on my short list.

Rainmanx, if I'd had any breakfast yet I'd throw up.

I got my CDL back in '07 after letting it go for 30 years. First the 'B' through a bus company. Then the 'A' again early '08. Part-timed at the bus company. Part-timed propane tank delivery straight truck. It took about 5 months to get on with Mid-States Express in Indy, home every night, LTL, pickup-and-delivery and a little short line.

Was going to reply with a similar story but different outcome. Thought it best not to. I think you know how it ends.

So, how's everything in Cookville? I was born & raised just North of Nashville; tobacco country. Left there 5 years ago and haven't been back. Bought a nice home 10 minutes from the Las Vegas strip & one in the Orient. Bounce back & forth now enjoying the laid back lifesyle. Always good to see another Tennessean on here. Take care.

Cookeville is a nice quiet town. Just no work in tennesee anymore that pays anything. I would much rather live in vegas but cant get the wife to move away from her parents. She says after they are gone but i am convinced they will outlive me...lol

My point is that any of us with a little bad luck and a cop waiting in a bad mood with some red lights... at the flick of a switch ... we're with the OP in the line for food stamps and unemployment.
