Depends on if there is any good paying gigs out there that will bring you by the house or not. Its doable but make sure you dont haul cheap freight in order to make it happen. Lots of people work regional or local gigs and make a decent living at it, you just gotta find the right deal. You may want to look into a small companys that run local out there first before buying a truck. Im sure somebody's got some suggestions.

Home every night in Myrtle Beach. LOL. The only way you can do that, in reality, is to haul containers and you'll still spend some nights on the road. That is completely ignoring the fact that you'll go broke hauling cans.
Now, seriously, do you see anyone in your area running local O/O? If so you need to pick their brains, or talk to who they are leased to. It will take a lot of effort on your part to sniff out an opportunity, but you need to find the opportunity first, then the truck. Good luck.Mr. PlumCrazy Thanks this. -
Of the many mistakes people going O/O make is that they are doing it to run a very specific way without the willingness to change if it is not working out or resources to suffer through the slow times.
Can it be done? Sure. But you better be willing to be OTR to make money while looking for that opportunity. It is a joke thinking that you have more freedom when you own your own truck. To be sucessfull you have to be willing to do what the other guy won't.
How many O/O's do you know that have that attitude? (and not talking about running illegal, that's the desperation of the simple mindeds path)BigJohn54, Mr. PlumCrazy, fortycalglock and 4 others Thank this. -
Yep. that's me. lol. I run only certain lanes. this last week I did $4,100 to the truck & home every night. but some times I made $ 500 for the week due to my stubborn ways. some of the local drivers have been going o.t.r. cause the local loads slowed down & at this time there is more available loads for me, cause of that. I think there is more freedom owning your own truck. for sure. you have the freedom to make ALL the choices. you as a owner usually DO work harder & longer, but that is cause now you look at is as your money, not the company's money. owners of any business usually work harder & longer than when they worked for someone else, but that ,to me does not mean less freedom. it's more freedom to choose to work harder & longer. the choice I have to work this week or not, IS freedom. the point that I may work twice as hard as a non o/o is not less freedom, but a choice, which comes from the freedom I have.

running illegal is a fact of life. Period.
