Yes, to err is human and everybody does make mistakes, but it's from those mistakes that we learn and move forward. And you know what? There will always be people in this world that will judge you - who cares? What does it matter what I or someone else thinks of you? What do you think of yourself?

i think of my self as a good law o biding citizen now at one point in my life i didnt give a hoot or a holla about the law-man untill i went to jail and made an honest friend in the process , im a good hard working person that pays it forward when i can. I learned from my mistakes , and got sober in the process , i learned that drugs and violence dont make a good mix , learned that the hard way , i just wanna make a better life for me , and this is where my dreams are taking me , but it seams im running into road blocks cuz of my past , i take FULL responsibility for my actions in life and blame no one but my self for it

And these are the prices you must pay for your mistakes. You have to work twice as hard as a person without a record to prove you truly learned from your mistakes. The only thing that will help your current situation is time. But that doesn't mean you cannot still learn as much as you can about the industry - which I strongly recommend.

It is not a gravy job. These men and women deal with an onslaught of things on a daily basis. They are away from their families, friends and home; they are strictly regulated by local, state & the federal government; they drive in hazardous conditions and are around "hazardous" 4 wheeler drivers. They are least respected, highly blamed and completely stereo-typed for being who they are - truck drivers.

well this is a better approach. and im among the last that will blame someone for their past mistakes if theyre making an honest effort not to repeat them, ASSUMING their past mistakes didnt hurt others. (for example, child molesters, rapists, murderers, dui killers give up their humanity forever, and are valueless regardless of the time since the act).

but for those than are still human, we ALL have done things for which we are less than proud. your things are kinda recent to have much of a shot in the trucking industry, especially the '09 drug thing. fact is, insurance companies have a pretty darn big say in who can and cannot be hired, and drugs are a HUGE deal to them. im certainly not saying your desires are impossible, merely that they are gonna be tough obstacles to overcome. but take this from my babbling. if i were in the position to decide whether or not to hire you....the op i would dismiss out of hand, and never give a second thought. the person that made the last couple posts i MIGHT consider, but id sure put some heavy stipulations on any employment contract (ie youd be taking at least 6 drug tests in the 1st year). its not that everyone whos ever done something wrong is automatically a dirtbag...its that dirtbags often put on a "good face", so its really hard to tell them apart from someone whos sincere.

and as far as the job being "not respected", i can vouch for that, as can most on the site. my 6th grade teacher was quite fond of suggesting that all women should work at being housewives, and all the boys in the class that were deemed by him to be of lesser intelligence were told they should consider a career in truck driving. funny thing is, the guy in the class that is the truck driver now (me) earned the 2nd highest grades in the class (best friend was 1st, the nickname given to him by the teacher was "the scholar". to me the teacher would always say "you're smart, but youll never be as good as "the scholar""). ah, such a lovely man...such fond memories. had a little party the day i found out he was dead.

Don't make cold calls, the answer will always be NO. Have someting tangible, like the CDL diploma and job application.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is adding criminal record to the list of things employers cannot discriminate against.
