Now hold on heah with this getting sick business.

I don't talk about it much but I have gotten sick out there legit a few times, severe colds infections and even appendix problems once.

Companies are not quick to fire when you are sick, you do your best to drive against it and they can tell for sure as your miles drop off daily into your first few days of getting sicker. Eventually you simply stop. They call your family because you usually call home in your being sick, it's natural to call home. Once they learn that they got a sick driver, they simply wipe the board on your unit and wait. It's either going to break your fever in a few days and you will get going again or you will end up in the hospital or home or all three.

I once stopped in Elkton at the 76 there and stayed in the bunk running a fever for three days. Boss man found me on the satellite asked if I was ok, I said no 104 here. Burning up. He said hydrate get a hotel and stay there I don't remember which one but on the 4th day the fever broke. And later that night I took a moment and realized that oh *&&% this load is still on reefers getting thirsty (100 gallon tank almost dry..) and tractor needs a drink of fuel etc. So there is a period of activity running about clucking over the truck, then disinfect the cab, wash everything and so on.

You lose a lot of pay sitting for days in fever situation, but people do track you.

Another time I had a similar situation in Knoxville east, there was a little McDees up there. I got infected somehow and talked to pa about it. And two days later found out that they used my banking information to locate me when the boss could not find me due to the mountain behind that little truck lot. But it worked out well.

Ive been carted to the hospital many times but those are straightforward, you get going again. No one is going to be firing you for getting sick or owie or hit by a coil or whatever. They will.....

    Drumroll....

    IS MY TRUCK OK?

Forget you, it's all about that stupid truck LOL.

That is not a financial risk but rather a health/safety risk. You are putting your health and the safety of the public in danger in order to be " handsomely rewarded".

You are right, that's not how I run my business. I put safety first. And by the way, I am also being "handsomely rewarded".
Yes I can and I wish you good luck. I think we have both made our points already.

    Peace

The first thing to do is this...Call your DM. Tell him that you are recording the call for possible legal action later. You then say that you cannot do what he is asking you to do because of SAFETY concerns. There is no way you can legally make the run. At that point the DM will back down. If he doesn't and tries to pressure you into going on, your contract is VOID. No contract can require you to violate US Law. You quit and sue the company.

The DM will back down. He might refer you to his supervisor. If he does, repeat the Safety statement. Also tell him you are recording the conversation.

Now if they fire you for refusing to do something both unsafe and illegal, you have won the Trucker Lottery. Get you to a lawyer and then a banker.
