The job is different because of the close quarters you have to share. I agree it should not matter but in some cases it does. It would be a great industry if we all were just courteous and professional. My personal attitude is I don't want anyone in the truck with me. That's not because who you are it's me and being able to trust your driving. Now if a job was to come my way and it required a team I wouldn't care if the other driver was gay or not as long as his or her record proved to be professional.

It's the gay activists that have created problems. They have an in your face attitude demanding people accept and respect their lifestyle. Many find this attitude offensive and will have a negative attitude to openly gay people.

All he needs to do is keep it to him self. I know I will be called a bigotry or such but I do not believe person is made gay, it a choice. So why give separate rights?

My biggest problem is when a gay approaches me and do not take no. Brushes up against me and does everything humanly possible to be annoying. Yes I had that happen 2 times. Once in College and once at the Petro in NJ. If he want to be Gay so be it, but leave others alone.

I do not mess with them, If they gay I do not bother them I say hi be nice but I do not want them grabbing me as most women do not want men grabbing them.

Ignorance is alive and well in Georgia! You're certainly entitled to your own opinions - you are not, however, entitled to your own "facts". I don't care that you believe it's a choice. The fact is that it is not.

Trucking is a very 'private, vagrant' lifestyle. A lot of bad people can get into the job and avoid the pitfalls they'd deal with in an office-style or other workplace setting. Extremely prejudiced people who may not be able live in a PC world can hide quite well in the trucking lifestyle because 'they're just drivers'. And they also move around quite well as to never get noted as 'that guy' amongst co-workers. A truck stop is the place for you to worry. If anyone who is prejudiced suspects it and they're of the type to do something troublesome or violent, they could sabotage his truck, assault him, compromise his load, etc.

Having said that. The vast majority are NOT like that. But just like the ones who spread their feces all over the wall of a toilet stall... they're out there. And make the rest of us look like neanderthals. So, best to keep to yourself anything more than necessary to do the job.

I think the not a choice thing is BS. I had knew quite a few people that just swung back and forth for attention.

Anyway, yeah, just tell him not to be flamboyant, but if he already knows how to hide it, I'm going to assume he's got enough common sense to realize that.

What I would suggest is that he COMPLETELY keeps it to himself during his on the road training. When they say they give you a trainer, what they're doing is putting you in with an experienced driver with a 3 hour training course. There are PLENTY of guys that just won't be comfortable living in a truck with an open gay man for weeks during the training course.

I'm am so very sorry for not getting back sooner, 3rd shift worker and all.... Now let me be perfectly clear about this I don't assume anything - I ask, I gather information, Had this been 30 yrs ago I would have gone to a truck stop and observed how the Truckers acted but in this day and time we have the net which is so much more convient. Now as far as your therory about the Bankers Forum, Had I never been into a bank, never met a bank teller, never delt with a Bank Manager before...By all means YES I would found the nearest Banking Forum That I could find and ask for the very same information from them that I've asked from this site. I am very well aware of the short-sighted, narrow minded, caveman like attitudes that every working industry has this is just common sense. So I thank you for your input and hope that everything rolls your way....zbbrown60
