Used trucks have been selling like hotcakes according to industry publications I've been reading. That said you still ought to make an offer much lower than asking price and for a 10 speed truck that is too much what they would like to have imo. I'd pass on it unless I had a good 13 to swap in and they wanted to deal. I'd still pass if you are patient enough youll find another 6nz..

I'm sorry for hijacking thread but I want to ask if two or three people can give me a quick opinion/feedback on the truck that I'm getting.

    2006 Volvo 670
    $25,000
    870,000 miles
10 speed auto (I know, I know, but I actually do prefer it believe it or not)
I'm not sure what engine it is. Don't all their Auto Trans come with the same engine?
All general inspections come through clean.

Any thoughts? And no need to knock on me about the tranny. I know :biggrin_25521:

P.S. I've been trying to find sites on the internet with some sort of crash course on the different engines, transmissions, tires, etc, etc... and can't come up with anything. So if you have a link please do share.

OKAY since you asked. A vulva with 870k and an auto is thee last truck I would ever consider buying. I'd have bought a freightliner cambodia before I bought that. Sorry to be blunt and I hope the truck works for you.

You dont even know what engine? Well, it's not a Cat. Strike four.

The "get the previous owner's number" doesn't always work either.

I bought my 88 Western Star,425 Cat from a "reputable" dealer who was also an "award winning" long time GM dealer. Not a little fly by night. Oh, the Cat was "everything but the block rebuilt with less than 1000 miles onit" and here's Charlie's (prev owner's) phone number. Spent 1/2 hour on the phone with "Charlie" detailing all the work he'd had done, yup, yup, yup.

Now understand, there's a little voice in the back of my mind going "If he spent all this money, why'd he trade it in?". But there's another voice all excited over this "great deal" I was getting.

So I traded in the 72KW that I'd hand built for the business I'd just shut down. (This was my first mistake.... panic buying). Oh but that WS looked good, yes it did, sitting in my driveway. Real dream truck with the double bunk, power everything, polished aluminum Budds. Spent a week patching the rust holes under the visor, replacing all the guages (including the speedo/odometer) and switches and loose wires and stuff. Still not listening to the voice going Noooooo!!!!

Long sad story short, things started to go bad almost immediately. The outfit I'd planned on going with says "Sorry, we lost that contract you was planning on. Wehave no work for you". Panic mode again (AKA "the dumbs"). New truck, new payments, no job.... in December. Put it on an outfit with "less" than sterling rep. Nightmare.

Anyhow, 6 hellish months later I finally got on with an outfit where I was actually starting to see daylight. 2 months in Cat blew. Cat dealer took the engine down, ran the numbers in their system. No record of this truck in any Cat dealer in North America. Engine has never been touched and they figure close to 1,000,000 miles to account for wear. $20,000 for new engine.:biggrin_25521: Didn't have it, couldn't get it.

About a year later, I'm driving for someone else and I'm in a Toronto area truckstop when I hear "Charlie's" name. I walk over with blood on my mind. Yep, he owned that truck.... but it hits me immediately, this is not the voice I talked with. the real Charlie is amazed that I bought "that wore out old wreck".

The dealer lied from start to finish. But ultimately it was all my fault. I had over 20 years trucking experience at that point, including 8 years doing my own thing. Thought I had all the bases covered. Life is a hard school and failing grades hurt like a mother.

Find yourself a truck with a 9sp. They are easily converted to a 13 if thats what you prefer.

At 850k+ miles on it that is the best advice. I bought it with a 200,000 mile warranty on the powertrain. Let's hope that I don't have to put this to use.
