***I may have posted this thread in another section...my apologies but I need some guidance.***
I work for a company that delivers to grocery stores in a local route (under 100 miles round trip.) I'm getting nervous because Ive had to work in excess of 16 hours somedays on my route, we don't get any breaks, other drivers never inspect their vehicles and/or never complete the form in the event the vehicle has a safety issue, I went 2 months without a inspection log and kept asking my employer until I finally got one, I've seen a female driver who was clearly intoxicated on multiple instances operate a vehicle...even after informing management. Here is the kicker, I've been asking my overtime and other drivers laugh and say "have you ever been asked to use a timecard?" Not one driver nor the company has any record of our HOS (because the ONLY reason we would complete one is IF the vehicle has a safety issue.)
I need some feedback from some "real" drivers who are proficient in the law. Thanks!
Need some feedback...

Sounds like you fall under the DOT Short haul exception. No log book required ,I believe if under 100 or 150 air miles.Dont remember , but seems like 100 miles?Don't get caught 200 miles from home with No logbook though. Are you paid hourly? Noticed you mentioned overtime. You can't drive over 11 hours., but get allowed a combined day of 16 hours after 5 days of returning to base or after your reset.Irmat20171, slow.rider and Chinatown Thank this.

Thanks for the advice. The FMSCA actually increased it to 150 miles, however, I still have to perform a pretrip and post trip inspection and if ANYTHING is wrong with the truck, I have to complete the appropriate form. As for HOS, I remember the "old" rule which was I could not drive after the 14th hour and then would require 10 hours off the clock, and 8 hours sleep. Which brings up the issue of overtime. At the first interview I was informed that if I took the job, I would have to work 40 to 60 hours per week and receive $1,000.00 net through a temp agency. However, many weeks I worked in excess of 14 hours a day and over 70+ hours a week. I had to complain about a needing a logbook for two months and the rental truck had no backup lights.
NONE of us ever punched a timeclock and never filled out one piece of paper documenting our work times, therefore, how can the company say that they monitored HOS in relation to the FMSCA.slow.rider Thanks this. -
Why do you still work for them? Everybody is desperate for drivers these days.
Lonesome Thanks this. -
I don't have a CDL A or B and I left that company almost a year ago. There were 7 of us that started there in early 2020 and the last two just resigned Friday. All seven of us quit because of this. Four of us just saw a lawyer and we are going to file a class action suit. When I tell all of you the rest of the story, it gets even worse. I'll reveal the company name soon but the products they make are in probably every household.
