I work for one the companies you listed and would pick Midland over my current company just for the pay increase and reputation they have .There’s no work where i’m at but they keep saying we’re going to be busy . You can definitely make more driving a DZ class truck than AZ that’s for sure like cement trucks. on-site fuel trucks , roll off and front load garbage trucks. the problem is landing a job in those industries every one wants experience. Nice thing about some of the cement and garbage companies around toronto is they’ve union and pay up to $35 a hr . only downside is some require 6 day work schedules especially in the summer time . I know WM in brampton and waste connections do . Republic services a american company bought out wasteco in 2023 to get into the gta garbage market is what i read online
I like where i work , I pretty much do what ever i want and no one bugs me . i definitely feel under paid at $23.50 a hr but i’m not seeing a whole lot of well paying decent companies advertising. It’s the same crap being posted every week by the same companies . I can tell you right now you will not make a lot of money over here . I’ve seen lots of newbies come and go for greener pastures.
. Only reasons i would quit is if i was being treated like crap, unmaintained equipment, no work and pay cheques always bouncing
Need some help deciding!

@classicxl
Is there metal scrap yards in your area?
I just hired on with a company that runs lugger trucks, and they needed a guy with a class 1/AZ for when they need to pull a trailer behind to mive multiple scrap bins for a couple customers.
All their other drivers are class 3/D.
Might be worth a shot. -
All the scrap hauling companies are about a hr away give or take . Aim recycling, All ontario , triple M and cmi recycling are the big players around here . I did apply to Aim but never heard back and to be honest i don’t get warm fuzzy feelings from any of the companies listed. Everyone one of them is constantly looking for drivers and employee reviews on all the companies aren’t good
I’m very cautious right now with the job market being so bad right now . if a job doesn’t work out it’s not easy to get a new one in these times . There’s also a ton of competition from new Canadians looking for work and unfortunately doesn’t seem to matter nowAlbertaflatbed Thanks this. -
Yeah, i hear you. I couldn't remember your exact location. Having a job in hand is better than risking a new job hoing sideways in a month or two for sure.
The company I was with lost it's warehousing and linehaul contract to Ryder Logistics. I could stay on with Ryder but it's a 10$ an hour wage reduction. Considering it's nights and artic conditions on hwy 63 in the winter here, I decided to look for local work. I was lucky to get a decent M-F 10 hour days job. With occasional weekends. Pay is lower but I get a 'normal schedule' now.upnorthwpg Thanks this.
