One thing I learned in trucking is use the G.O.A.L method when backing GET OUT AND LOOK. Before you back into any space whether in a truck stop, shipper/receiver you get out and look. You need to be sure that there is no objects around that can cause you to blow a tire, and you need to see if there is enough room for you to back your truck in without damaging either your truck or someone else's..

And yes you need to report any type of accident even if it is small and no real damage. I had one a couple of weeks ago. I was driving in a area where it was dark no lights or nothing. When I made the right turn I made it two short and landed in a ditch. I hit it so hard the truck bounced right back out and onto the road.. Once I returned to the terminal I against advice from others went and reported it to safety. Most drivers said that because there was little damage, no one would notice. Well I do believe in reporting such things and care about my job.. Good part is that it won't go against my DAC just but in my file for 6 months..

the company I drive for is big on GOAL. It's on the mirrors and printed backwards on the sides of the trailers :) In fact, if you don't GOAL on their in-house driving tests, you automatically fail.

Personally, I think two other things should be on the mirrors:

"This ain't Duel and that ain't Dennis Weaver"

"Objects in mirror are in different locations than they appear"
