I know, but if there was a terminal in ABQ, you would keep a car parked in ABQ and drive home for home time. They figure it costs $1.00-$1.40 mile loaded or empty to operate the truck depending on if you are paid for those miles as well, you want to pay a $1.40 mile to run from Flagstaff or Albuquerque to Farmington and probably back to reload and restart the work tour? The point is, you are a long way from any shippers and receivers that benefit the typical large van or reefer carrier. Flatbed maybe would work for you living there but you still have to get through the training phase until you can run flatbed, solo.

It does exist. I live five miles east of I-95. One of the big companies I applied to didn't hire east of I-95 and even though I was only five miles east, they wouldn't hire me. On paper I'm like THE candidate recruiters want (it's when my personality emerges the other shoe drops LOL). Sixteen years accident free experience, mostly OTR. Spotless MVR and criminal history and zero CSA points. Not a bad word at all from any former employer. Recruiter was going nuts. Asked a couple different supervisors to waiver the five miles. Nope. Five miles was five too many. No biggie. I'm happy where I landed. Being up front with exactly where you live and asking that question during the interview will save you filling out a lot of online applications (if they don't have a hiring area map on their website I'd call first before filling out the online application) and I'm sure someone will hire you. There are carriers out there that will hire students from anywhere. May have to stay out a little longer but as a student you'll probably have to stay out a good bit anyway. That's usually how it is starting. Not always, but usually. Good luck and keep looking. It'll happen for you.
