It looked to me like the driver with the dashcam was doing his best to avoid the debris, then get over to a safe place and stopped. England probably did him a favor.
Need some I-80 west help....:

and you know this HOW? The video clip i posted is the origional from the driver that filmed it....he didnt say anything about getting fired...so just courious how you know that????
American Trucker -
That was an England driver pulling a WalMart trailer. He was fired because instead of stopping he drove right through the debris. According to the Safety Dept. at England, he had enough time to stop and not drive blind through the debris cloud that came through with the wreck, which according to them could have a caused another accident or added on to the original wreck.

CHP went through the logs, not Caltrans. How do you know the CRE guy was fired?
There was no way to tell.
Second time you've posted that. Source, please. I've asked the driver. Let's see what he says.
Somebody posted that it was road rage; you can't tell that from the clip. Somebody posted that it was Swift; you can't tell that from the clip. Somebody posted that the rollover driver rode the brakes down; you can't tell that from the clip.Last edited: Feb 29, 2012

The camera was from a Wal-Mart truck, not a CRE truck.

I know this stuff because I have a friend who works for CalFire in Colfax. I wouldn't just make it up as I go along. It wasn't Swift either it was a company out of Colorado. And I misspoke it was CHP who looked through the logs.
ac120 Thanks this. -
The newspapers reported the camera vehicle as a Wal-Mart truck. But CR England pulls a lot of Wal-Mart loads in this area; I see them whenever I get out on I-80--CRE must have a pretty good Wal-Mart gig. I believe the camera vehicle was a CRE lease-op/owner op pulling a Wal-Mart trailer. The tractor's red (you can see the reflection in his windshield). Wow, though, you know, we're just watching two guys dies. #### shame. Thanks for answering. Wasn't trying to nail ya, just curious. Apologies if I seemed snarky or rude. Be safe. -
No problem. I wasn't trying to be a know it all or anything. I just know what happened. The driver was a trainee with 9 days behind him and the trainer was in the bunk. I watch that video occasionally to humble myself and to remember what I could possibly let happen. I've driven over Donner several times and I passed the area about a week or two after it happened. I think every new driver needs to see that video because it proves that you're not invincible.

Thanks. I watch it too, and I don't drive anymore. I agree that every new driver needs to see that. Safe trip.

Better to see it than to participate in it!
I can't understand how anyone could think that the "filming" driver had the time or chance to stop before going through the "debris". A Wal-Mart load is usually heavy....and that curve is actually rated at 50...not 65+ like the unfortunate other truck was obviously going.ac120 Thanks this.
