Thank you Jakebrake for very useful info!!! Wow what a coincidence, Greenpoint(polish hood), Maspeth!!! I used to live in Brooklyn and worked for Arnold Bread for 2 years located in Maspeth Queens next to Con-Way and Fed Ex depos. So I know exactly which place you are talking about. Pretty junky industrial area. I was driving box truck was delivering bread to Manhattan, Bronx and Brooklyn. It was pretty difficult job, I woke up at 4am, should be at depot at 4:45, loaded full truck by myself and then had about 20 stops a day, horrible traffic, uhh. Sometimes it took me about 14 hours. Jakebrake do you know if it's ok to live 55 miles away from depot? Does Con-Way have requirements to live no further then 20-30miles radius around terminal. For me it's ok to drive an hour to work and then back home.

I was 50 miles away from the terminal I worked at at one time and did it for over 3 years man.. It's alright so long as you make it in on time and don't bring it to their attention.. -
Mobb Deep/Nas right haha, falling under the table with laughter... I have clean driving record, 0 moving violations, I have only few tint tickets. I'll try to apply, hope they will hire me. If not what do u know about another LTL companies like ABF, Yellow etc?

A Duie Pyle has a truck driving academy, and I think they have a terminal somewhere in PA. You could try Pitt Ohio Express as well. they dont have any terminals in northern jersey or NYC, might have some closer to you.
Fedex Freight hires newbies, dont know what the process is like though. Pretty sure you'll be working the dock for a bit though too. -
Hahaha.. I'm as white as they come kid with my long ### hair and my music.. I remember those ###### kids from Jersey coming over here though.. They got thier ##### handed to them and went home man.. To this day my girl is black and we're always good.. Maybe we'll get married someday but till then we'll just be friends right.. -
best thing to do is get the permit, friend of mine in my class had his permit before getting hired. me and one other guy both had our licenses with the doubles and hazmat endorsements.
usually as an apprentice u will have to work the dock for a month before u start the class. and they may put u on a split shift like i had to do, id go in at 7am work till 1030 then go to class from 11-3, then lunch till 5 then work outbound 5-830 or 9
i have a thread on here about my progress through the class, so n e question read through there, or ask me. questions about the company itself ask jakebrake as he gave me a ton of info i wasnt sure about or ppl i work with didnt no
@jakebrake u didnt grow up too far from me then lol
@century i think u and i have the same personel manager if ur in the brooklyn/queens terminal, mr g right?NHL_fan Thanks this. -
Yea ACH, Mr G. is correct -

Thanks for info ACH! I DO have permit with tanker and dbls/trpls endorsements already. Passed all tests(gen knowledge, air brakes, combos, dbl/trpl, tanker) from first turn without any problems, even English is not my native language. Made only 3 mistakes in gen knldge test which has 50 questions. I'm going to learn HAZMAT. Hopefully I'll get this endorsement soon. Then I'll probably try to apply in Hagerstown terminal, like Jakebrake already told me it's big terminal, it means more opportunities over there then in my town(Winchester VA) terminal. And again thank you all guys for useful information!
