Just some thoughts that come to my mind... doesn't mean anything because I don't know.. just throwing it out there.
Wiggle wagons?
I do know for company drivers they are VERY strict on policy. For example, I know a couple of drivers that drove for UPS in local delivery trucks who were involved in accidents where they were NOT at fault but were fired anyway. Its their policy... involved in an accident, your history. However one of the two guys did get help from the union & was able to get his job back. But, its the hassle. I'm just saying, their strict policy is something to check in to & add into the equation.
However after saying that, maybe some of teh guys who know can elaborate.
Need some Insight on my situation !!!

May be some wiggle wagons I asked .. But mostly 45-53 ft vans
transfer freight Term to Term to break down for the smaller trucks etc
Is what I been told .. -
As a OO for them your deal would be allot different than a company driver for sure. They have their slow times too but with the holiday's coming up soon I'd bet you'll be plenty busy.
If all their #'s jive with what you need to make it. Go for it. ( you won't have to worry about them going out of business!) -
us marine, you are in the "mileage mentality of trucking" you are in the more miles equal more money when you run for 90 cents and th fuel surcharge.
i currently avg. over 2.00 a mile loaded and empty, get my fuel taxes paid, and get bonus applied toward tag of 700.00 , not much different really other than 70 cents a mile. the current entire fleet avg over 1.70 a mile loaded and empty.
i understand the jump the running on percentage is scary, but you will leave money on the table.
thats the penalty for getting mpty miles paid. and remember ups is a anal retentive organization, it aint all roses there.gokiddogo Thanks this. -
For the gross UPS is making on those loads that rate is ridiculous.
Look at your cost to run your truck. It looks like you will be giving up about .17 a mile. You will be working harder to MAYBE make marginally more money. -
I just don't know Flatbed .. I wished I did ..
i got a condo ( which prob isn't a big deal ) but I also got .. No equipment and no trailer by the time I pay for the trailer and everything ( plate etc .. )
Isnt a trailer lease any where from 150.00-200.00 a week ? I'm not sure just throwing it out there but I understand your thoughts on percentage I really do . I just don't have the equipment and really don't got 1,500.00 to shell out for it at this time . I've stayed on the sinking ship one to many weeks and I am feeling the crunch now .
I see UPS as a more STABLE and CONSISTANT commodity and RELIABLE for work and utilization of my equipment . I know I'm not gonna get rich there .. Lol
But I also see your point on more miles also -
I see the point on the rate also that's why I threw it out there in real numbers of my current gig and the UPS numbers also
-
Here's my thoughts
I can make up to 1.52-1.53 where I am in a Van contract that's not bad considering what all I get in extras paid . But they can pay me 3.00 a mile and if I only get 300 miles ( example only ) I'm still in a bind ... Lol
I make a good chunk where I am .. if I am able to get decent miles or work load
its just falling off and they are relying on brokers now more than ever and if they don't get the rate they want I sit ( for free ) till they do that could be 5 hrs or over night or 1.5 days which recently happened to me cause they were bickering with CHR over 0.07 to 0.10 cpm on a load of plastic rubbermaid stuff .. -
you can learn flatbed with their program , the trailer lease for everything is a little over 500 a month a little over 125.00 a week, you get paid aftr every load, tell you what call em. tell them the situation, i bet they work with you, if nothing else use the 2500 sign on bonus for your equipment.
-
I would use the bonus for my equip for sure if they'd let me ...
125.00 ain't bad for a trailer either
