You have to use those numbers I gave you, not just yell real loud. I passed by Maverick on Thursday. It was smelling again, you must have been there!

Do you write in "Safety Check" or just flag it ?
I learned to "write in" on all flags,it shows effort.

Simplistically the rules require you to log it like you do it however if you flag a pre & 15 mins. for post there shouldn't be a problem. But a state official has the right to doubt that you did the pre in less that 15 & demand you show him/her how you could. When it takes you 35 minutes at his/her coup then he/she will write a citation for a violation of 395.8(e), false log. But that's easy enough to beat when you get the cop on the stand and ask him/her "were you there this A.M. when I did it? Answer will be no. Then why did it take me longer at your coup? At this time the prosecutor will probably object as the answer is heresay and therefore inadmissible but you tell the judge....exactly, he/she wasn't there and he/she doesn't know. Or if the prosecutor does not object you tell the officer that he/she doesn't and can't know because he/she wasn't there and he/she has no idea why it took longer at his/her coup and the citation is based purely of assumption/speculation and you can't write a citation based on an assumption/speculation..........case dismissed without you having to testify and allow the prosecutor to ask why it took longer and you are then required to stick your foot in your mouth.

I abreviate, Post Trip Inspection/Pre Trip Inspection both are PTI, of course if I am loaded I write in a Load Check (LC), also. Technically, LC are part of the PTI, but since in says to do a LC for every change of duty status, I record it.

The only thing mandated in part 395 is the city and state location in the remarks section. The city name may not be abbreviated. Just the state may be abbreviated. Everything else you enter into the remarks section is just gravy on the potatoes and could get you into trouble.

It is company policy more than the DOT.

I just write the city, state and no explanation as required by the DOT. Never had it questioned during a level 1.
