Second year driver here......I'm leaving my current company because my boss is a hole. I have 2 offers with 2 small company's I like. One offer is 22% of what the load pays. Second offer is 40% of the net profit of each load. I'm good at math but this one has me wondering. Both places seem great and have lots of work.

What is your location? This would help more experienced people to help you.

By the way, I like your avatar:

Are you kidding? take the 40%

Have you talked to them about that 40%? and where they run etc? Get to know them a little bit?

If the current boss is a A-hole it must be for a reason. Something happened between the two of you to create that tension. Either he is right and you are wrong or something happened that he is holding against you to the end of time.

The best bosses are those who do not know your name. And you don't know or meet them. Keep that in mind.

22% seems low.I thought most pay at least 25% and more with exp.

Couldn't agree more. Just pay me what I'm owed and leave off the kissy-huggy part.

You need to get actual numbers from both companies. Believe it or not you may actually come out ahead at 22%
It's all about the rate. Here's an example I always give because people always think a higher percentage is better.

    75% of 1.00 cpm
    50% of 2.00cpm
I think the only way you'll be able to come to a decision if neither will show you on paper true numbers is to ask them.
" on average what does it come out to"
And hope they're relatively honest with their answer.
I wouldn't be surprised one bit if the 22% was the better deal.

The 40% after seems like a nightmare .

Is he deducting all truck expenses before figuring your pay ?

Its been 'splained to me that this method is to ensure that the driver is:
    • mindful of equipment (no hitting potholes head-on, or driving over curb)
    • keep fuel cost down (dont choose ineffient routes, or hold wrong gears too long)
Most drivers chicken out on this...
