Yes but it will be a waste of time to go to another doctor without the wavier, they will not even proceed. The waiver is the problem, he has to have that in hand to get his FIRST dot physical and then it is a little different after that.

Yeah it is confusing but the problem is they are trying to make sure that the person doesn't have a negative reaction to the insulin while on the road. I've got three drivers who are type 1 and I even have to make sure they are alright driving at times, we had one that ended up in the hospital in NY because he missed eating the right thing at the scheduled time, he was off the truck for a month. The crane operator noticed the change and called the dock manager who called 9/11. This guy is a fanatic about his health as are the other two but it was a fluke he missed that time by 30 minutes and that was enough to screw him up.
ALSO to the OP, get your diet in order, use a diet for diabetics and maybe even nurtisystems as a consistent balanced meal. YOU can't have candy or pop [soda] or any high carb foods, you have to get the a1c down and provide proof that you are making an effort. -
The way I understood the OP was that he had the wavier and the "Doctor" refused to give him his Medical Card anyway. Is that not the case?
-
That's what I gathered, because his a1c was a 10

My dad was a diabetic only I never thought much about it because he keep his blood sugar in check took his medicine every day the same time and ate the right foods.
-
If he has the wavier and the doctor (who I believe is a Nurse Practitioner in Columbus, OH) refuses to give him his Medical Card, then Doctor shopping is the proper thing to do. There are folks out there who believe their word is as good as God's word.

Type 1 is insulin dependent, your body can still produce insulin, unless your pancreas is completely gone. Type 1 can produce insulin, sometimes small amounts and sometimes unpredictable amounts, when the body has to make a lot for high sugar intake like sugared soda or heavy carbs, like pasta, bread and potatoes. So again diet is the only way to even this out. I know he wants to do something right now, fooling a doctor for a DOT physical, won't correct what is wrong. And could lead to a very unsafe operator. I know this from my own personal experience. An insulin reaction is the term used when you have too much insulin and your blood sugar drops to a very low level.
Someone stated that it can be fatal. Yes, fatal if you drive off the road or hit a bridge abutment. But once a diabetic gets tuned up and regulated, they can usually feel an insulin reaction coming on, (sweating and claminess are sure signs) there are simple glucose tablets or syrups that should be carried at all times, for exactly that purpose. Some don't taste too good, so you won't be tempted to use it as a snack, but in an emergency, they will quickly raise the blood sugar to a safer level. -
I know what type 1 and 2 are I'm type 2. Your don't the same thing I did. Diet is huge, but in the short term doesn't do anything for him right now, it's a long term issue that he needs to get under control before he even tries to get his CDLZigzag777 Thanks this.

Problem is the Dr he's going to is probably forcing him to go to their Dr and will not accept any other dot physical.
