Opinion noted. But without facts it's meaningless. I do agree that it is no long term solution, the effects are short lived, but when a fella is worried about losing his job I'd go for anything that might work.

Longer breaths actually reduce your BP as well. Inhaling to a count of 5-6 and exhaling to a count of 5-6, practiced the week before. Idea is to sort of retrain yourself away from short breaths that raise BP.
Mayo Clinic on Resperate (machine to train to breathe longer breaths): http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/resperate/AN01523
(Yes, I realize the OP wants a 'quick-fix' but there are simple things to do that make sense and others reading this thread may want more than an aspirin/band-aid.)Last edited: Oct 20, 2013

How high is it?

If your blood pressure now is normally pushing 140/90 (borderline), you can easily drop it to 130/80 temporarily by :
1) cutting out caffeine and salt for a couple days before the test
2) the day of the test avoid any aggravations like driving there in heavy traffic, being around a mean spiteful spouse, watching or listening to TV or news like Rush Limbaugh that can get you going, or other stresses
3) drink two glasses of plain water an hour or two before the test
4) get to the doc's office 30 minutes early, go sit in a corner and just relax with your eyes closed . Take deep slow breathing during this time.
5) and limit your talking during this half hour or when you go in with the Doc for your visit until they take your blood pressure. Just go in, roll up your sleeve and hold out your arm. They'll get the hint. -
I have been on Lisinipril 40MG once a day, and now I am taking Amlodipine Besylat with it, It is supposed to help with my heart rate! I'm good to go! 1 Year Card but that is OK!. I hope this helps, If you are having tightness of your chest and fell bad then you need meds, I went for a general physical to work for an Airline and they sent me to get meds. as my BP was crazy. I hope you get it fixed.

No caffeinated drinks for 2 days before the test lowers mine by 10 points
-
The last Doc I told I was on BP meds and he still gave me a 2 year card.
Or just don't mention it.....With the Meds my BP is perfect. -

Morning workout would actually help.
Eat spaghetti the night before.
Evening blood pressure should be lower that evening
Drink grape juice not soda
Or fast for 2 days and spit constantly
(Like a high school wrestler weigh in)
