By the way, not all temp positions are just that. I have had the experience of becoming permanent at least once.

Although like it's been said many times, Millis is a great company, they are not perfect. No company is. I have been pretty mad a few times at Millis but I do think the good outweighs the bad. I'm sure you won't be disappointed in your decision if you do decide to come on with Millis.

Hello everybody. Sorry I haven't chimed in for awhile. I have been reading though. Everybody seems to be doing great and enjoying themselves for the most part. As for myself, I decided not to put all my eggs in one basket and keeping looking locally also while waiting for McKee to make their moves. Five weeks ago I was offered the opportunity to venture back into HVAC repair work. I have been in and out of it during the years due to effects of the economy. You can make money if people can afford it. Plus my HVAC side work with rental properties was being added to me with an additional 30 unit apartment complex. Add that to what this customer already had and I'm at about 40 HVAC units or so. You guys get the drift. Anyway, I was offered the full time position about 5 weeks ago, turned in my notice to McKee, and have been working this job for about 3 weeks. Trying to finish up training on their procedures now and should have my own vehicle this week. This job does have some cons, but, I the freedom that it offers. I have the same thing you guys do except you delivery or receive and I fix and go home every night.

Maybe one day I will get back out there. I told my wife I will leave that option available for just in case. It may be when the kids get older. You guys stay safe and I will still chime in occasionally to say hi. I appreciate everyones help with questions. My choice had nothing to do with millis, it was just what I chose. Be safe everyone.

Congrats on your new job. I decided to go to work at a job that gets me home every night myself. It's only been a couple of weeks now but the thought of going home at night is what I needed. I drove for about a year and a half for Millis. I still think they are about the best starter co out there. The miles are there for the most part if your willing to run them but I got tired of wondering if I would get home Friday night or Saturday and then if I would have to leave Sunday or early morning. I was south east regional out of Cartersville. You really have to experience driving for a while to get the full effect of the job. A lot of guys that start looking into driving see the best of it as did I but half will not make it out of the training process and by then their stuck owing the 5000 dollar fee. The best advice I could give to someone thinking about wanting to drive a big truck is think it thru. I would never try talking someone out of going for their dream of driving if that's what they want to do. Just understand that what they read on these forums isn't all that's involved in trucking. There is a lot of Bullshi... that all drivers deal with each and every day. Everything from other drivers cussing you out because your not going fast enough to wondering if your going to find a parking spot at night. You might have to sleep at a customers lot that doesn't have a bathroom you can get to or any place to eat. Most people carry food for those occasions but I always liked to get out of the truck at night and go and sit down at a restaurant and enjoy a good meal. There are going to be times when you hit Qualcomm and get the old "no loads available" or that your #16 on the list. I've sat for most of the day waiting to get a load. The day time dispatchers are all good but God forbid you try dealing with night time dispatchers you can forget it. At least in my experience. I never say never but I would be hard pressed to go back into it. Please keep in mind I'm not cutting down MIllis it's just the nature of the business. I believe the best thing Millis could do if their really wanting to give the most accurate exposure to truck driving would be to offer a program that allows a potential student to ride along with a driver at a minim of one week before they sign up. Even if that person had to pay for the experience. I believe that would be the best for everyone involved.
Come on Millis be that cutting edge company that would offer that to the public. Who knows' it might even be a money maker for you to offer ride alongs to people that doesn't want to be a driver or may be a retired driver and just wants to take their vacation inside a truck again.
I'll close here since this is running long. You guys drive safe out there and the best of luck to you all.

I went to work for a company that makes molded sinks, shower stalls and other items you might find in a hotel room. It's a no brainier job and I took a cut in pay but it was worth it to me. My hours are from 6:00am - 2:30pm unless I work over time. I still like reading the truckers threads. Kind of a habit by now.
