    Oh, by the way...

A recruiter seemed to freak out when they looked at my employment history and the transition of jobs throughout the last 18 months. I clearly outlined that I am in college, out of state, and that there were several transitions due to relocation. The recruiter I spoke with seemed to be indifferent regarding the fact that I've been in college. I was basically told 'You need to stay at your current job for a year.' I laughed, said thanks and goodbye.

    haha...

    :O

I don't know why you're mad at me for telling you the truth? I hate to break this to you but one year is training and if that's all you plan to stay ,you're not worth the trouble...no one will hire you. If you feel that God is calling you to be a missionary, you need to get going right now. I'm out.

First, the quote I'm reading says he intends on being over the road for a MINIMUM of 1 year. Second, he doesn't have to tell his future prospective employers that, as long as he fills his financial obligations for the schooling/milling. I don't see why you'd go for the missionary jab, either. I'm not a fan of the religious folks, but as long as they're not bugging me to "find Jesus" and that I'm going to hell because I don't attend church, their views are their own.

I'm not going for any jab. I'm telling him the absolute truth. As far as not telling his prospective employer that...that would be advisable if he wants a job, which is what I said in the first place. I don't appreciate you putting words in my mouth. I don't understand why you two read things into something that aren't there? Like I said to him...I'm out of this conversation.

My apologies, I didn't realize he actually mentioned wanting to be a missionary, figured it was just a jab at his "saved" name and his cross avatar.

No problem. I hardly ever read the whole thread. I just jump in and start going. I'm just trying to be realistic with him.

First of all, I'm not mad. Last I knew, text lacks emotion. I found the comment to be irrelevant. Asking a prospective employee in an interview "How long do you intend to stay with us?" when said employee knows very litle about the company, is rather premature. If they want to know for investment purposes, fine, whatever. In either case, how long I stay depends on the company and most people would agree.

Second, my past, current, and present involvement with the ministry is between the Lord and I. Where he leads me for income in order to continue to obtain a Masters in missions is of my concern.

Once again, this really boils down to you giving your personal opinions about me, that being I'm a worthless investment and how I should live my life for the Lord, all of which have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

    Moving on...

    Saved.....interesting username.....

I don't know if I said hello yet or not...... but you are making comments and asking questions that a lot of my early posts may answer..... I will see if I can't dig a few of them up for you........ :biggrin_25525:

If I haven't said hello....... then Welcome...... :biggrin_25514:

Not sure why people appear to be getting tiffy on this thread.... I mean, I understand why they get tiffy with me all the time, (hense the target up there) but you seem to be behaving yourself so far....... :biggrin_2554:

Mills have their purpose.... you just need to make sure they serve YOUR purpose..... :yes2557:

Whether you go to a mill or a carrier you will pay roughly the same amount for the license training. :biggrin_25520:

And if you go to a mill..... and then move onto a carrier....... most have a reimbursement program where they will pay back your school cost. :biggrin_25519:
Many of the schools carry their own contracts or work with a special lender...... so credit is less of an issue..... I know one person in our class had less than horrible credit and they gladly accepted his signature to pay 70% more than I paid...... just depends on what it is worth to you.....

I have no idea why anyone is saying this is an issue....... the turn-over rate in trucking is so astronomically high (over 100% for most of the large carriers) that no one is going to notice if you leave because you find a better job, decide to quit driving, or even get fed up with the rat race and head off to live as a mountain hermit ....... :biggrin_25524:

Get accustomed to this...... I am a college graduate (several times over) and my mill/school made me produce my high school diploma..... apparently they do not understand that letters MA come after GED......... :biggrin_25521:

May I ask if the recruiter was from Schneider? :biggrin_2556:

I have to go for a few hours......... if you have the time check back by and I will post a few links for you...... :)

I've been trying to get some info from the local schools. I can't seem to find any that offer CDL courses. Even if I go the college course route, I'm still looking at around 4k. At my current job and hours, I'd have to eat ramen for a good 8 months.

The recruiter was from Prime, actually. Thought I put this in the original message. I don't really count it as a strike against them. However, I do find it odd that they wouldn't (at the least) verify my college enrollment. I even told the woman I was on campus. It's not like I'm taking 2 credits, part time, at my local community college.

    Oh well :)

My GED got burnt up along with the title to my Jeep. I've never been asked for it. Employers ask and when they're told I have a GED rather then a diploma, they kind of have that "Oh... how sad" look on their face.

Hello, just going to add a couple things....

For people strapped for cash, or unable to go without a paycheck or income for a couple weeks the choices are very limited on CDL training. BUT if you really wanna make it happen, you will find a way!:headbang:

You can look into WIA, grants, student loans, company reimbursements, financing etc. for help with $$$........

    You can look (google) at-
    -college training....
-Driver schools, such as Sage, Roadmaster, C-1, etc (all available in Indiana). etc.
-Company training, such as Schneider, Roehl, Prime, Watkins, etc.

The information is out there, on this forum and others, websites, at truckstops, drivers, recruiters, etc.

Do some pokin around and find what would work best for you. The fine people on this forum can help with questions you may have, and you may hear things you dont like, but the knowledge gained is worth the effort.

    Good Luck to You!
