Good luck Bikerdave! Will be following your progress as well as others looking...as I posted recently, will be there on Tues, the 17th to pound on doors. Sounds like not having experience isn't too much of a hinderence. Will concentrate on south TX for climate and a better housing situation but if west TX is the only place for a newbie, that is where I'll end up. Keep the posts coming...the more information we have, the better the search prospects for all of us coming down behind you!

It might help to read this and other threads about the oilfields. There is a buttload of information about companies hiring newbies in that area and others in TX. There's also a search function that will respond well to entering "oilfields" "oilfield" "oil fields" and/or "oil fields", then reading them produces a lot of information that has already been posted. Most of them are fairly recent, so they are still relevant. Have fun.

The Victoria TX area is booming too. Heard a lady state the other day that all the oil field workers were buying up all her bread and milk at the grocery store, LOL!

Read my post under the thread "great jobs in texas" for more commentary.

Does anyone know any companies hiring new driviers just out of trucking school?
my cousin and I will be traveling to San Antonio, TX this coming week to visit Sunoco Logistics and a few others. We are both looking to relocate our families. We both have all our endorcements Hazmat, Doubles/Triples and Tankers. Any help on what we could practice or any info that might help us get a foot in the door would be greatly appreciated?

    Thank you in advance!

If you are starting out in S.A. go through craigslist and start calling a day or 2 before you arrive. Most outfits will only take you serious when you are actually there. Dont put all your eggs in 1 basket though. This is what I did. Thought I had a great oppurtunity and wasted my last 2 and a half days with one guy. Went through interviews and group interviews where we thought we were all in. They guy just never showed up and wouldnt answer his phone ( yes I tried calling from another number also) Hope you both can find something there. Best of luck!

Thanks for the information! We both got interviews and a driving test (back up) for Sunoco today! Still unsure how or what to expect in the driving aspect all I was told was I had to pass the back up part of the test? So this past weekend we rented a tractor with a 53 foot trailer. We spent countless hours doing the alley dock both drivers side and blind sided, 90 degree alley docking, serpitine and driving around the city. One positive outcome was the awesome farmers tan I received! Hopefully my dedication pays off in the end. I will keep everyone posted on the outcome! Thanks again to everyone who has sent feedback.

Thanks for everyones time in advance

Good luck. Sure you'll do just fine.
