I'm OTR and at this point am out for almost three weeks and then take two days off. (Leave on Monday morning, stay out that week, all next week and come back on Friday the week after that)

I did a few months of four weeks out and five days off.

As far as mileage goes, I have no idea what I've actually been paid for, but I got this truck with 50200 miles on it and now it's got 165k

Take home pay is going to be dependent on your tax code, (how many dependents etc) and any other deductions such as health insurance.

I'm single with no dependents and my average weekly net as a 10 month newbie is about $950. I do dry van and reefer at 36 CPM. Things like detention pay and extra stop pay can help significantly as does staying out 3-4 months at a time.

The cpm thing is a good point. I make 42cpm, so that helps with these numbers a good amount

this may help just food for thought say most any type trailer newbie better to figure low to be safe say 36 cpm for example at 2000 miles would gross 720 then any additional pay besides mileage added to that then mius roughly 25% to cover taxes id rather figure lower than overestimate id say ballpark 32 to 42K to start out good luck to you and be safe regardless what you do

All that said, there's a ups city driver opening about 30 min from my house and that 9-5 m-f sounds pretty great right now. But it'll be a rather large pay cut for the first year at least. Maybe even for two.. decisions decisions

This will largely depend on 2 things [1] how hard your really prepared to work [2] How many miles your company will give you to drive. @ 32c per mile you need to get around 3000 miles per week to make $900.

Don't waste your time starting this career with a low paying job. Start out with LTL or tankers right out of school. Old Dominion hires new cdl grads for linehaul or P&D. Linehaul is better because P&D is city driving, but you are home every day with P&D.
There's several tanker companies that hire new cdl grads including Schneider Bulk.

Thanks, China. I'm heavily leaning towards tanker, flatbed, or ltl/line haul. I really wouldnt mind line haul. You know your routes and youre only away for a couple nights a week, plus the pay is decent. I think I might throw my app into OD in April 2018. Im due to separate service in June 2018, so that would give me time for my app to process and for me to do my refresher training. I believe OD starts out at almost $25/hr. Sounds like a pretty good starting wage to me.

I'm definitely willing to hustle...no doubt about that. I would just hate to be in a spot where I'm ready to run and I get screwed on miles.
