It is the law. But I never carry chains and never had a problem.
-
No, you do not HAVE to carry chains, just if the chain law is up, you have to either use chains or park the truck till they lift it. Colorado is the only state that mandates you HAVE to have tire chains in your possession for a set period in the winter.
Carrying Chains on I-70 (effective March 1, 2009) Commercial vehicles operating on I-70 in either direction between mileposts 133 (Dotsero) and 259 (Morrison) from Sept. 1 to May 31 must carry sufficient chains at all times to be in compliance with the Colorado chain law.dhout Thanks this. -
If the 'hump to Pahrump' required chains, it would be a big frickin' deal with news crews everywhere shooting footage. Same with I15 down to LA.
It's the Mojave desert, after all. -
Been looking all over I called cali about a mth ago about other areas I go in thru 40 up to Sac and back down n out. Depends on where I coming from and going to its 100-400 mile outta route. But the money is worth it.

So are you saying yes or no on 15. 15 as a winding stretch thru the mountain around the state line. Its just outside the desert.
-
I guess thats means you wouldn't need chain in antarctica either. Its the desert, after all.
-
I go over mountain pass and baker grade every other day. U don't need chains!
-
True, but every inch of precipitation that ever fell in Antarctica over the past million years is still there.
Southern Nevada ain't Antarctica.PitBullLuver and lv gn Thank this. -
They are not required to be on your truck. Now if the weather gets bad and the DOT puts the chain law into effect, you will have to chain up your tires. If you don't have them then you need to park your truck till they lift the ban and you can go again.
But NO, you do not have to carry chains in CA or NV.
