Ok. Well, Buddy says my boss never drove, and he’s a complete tool and has NO CLUE!!!
Lolx1Heavy Thanks this. -
there ya go...you may not be working tomorrow, but i was only trying to help ya......lol
like this morning in fact.
i went to the gas station to play my weekly lottery tickets..
cold as all heck in the office.
i told the guy, "i'm willing to tell your boss for you he's a cheap prink and should turn on the heat for you.....
you may not be working here tomorrow, but at least, i helped you get some heat.....well...for the new guy"...lolx1Heavy Thanks this. -
As long as they are understanding, have a willingness to learn, do a great job, and appreciate the relationship they have with drivers who cares if they’ve driven or not? Larger companies micromanage drivers, but that’s probably more due to their own business model than it is to office staff that hasn’t driven.

Yes, and thank goodness.
We have ex drivers who work in safety, training, and one who recruits and does road tests for drivers and that’s about it.
I don’t want ex drivers working sales, I want MBAs. I don’t want ex drivers doing payroll, I want business diplomas. I don’t want ex drivers managing my benefits, investing my retirement, making capital expenditures in the millions, fixing my truck/trailer, writing quarterly reports for federal filings, and the list goes on.
We have a tendency to believe we are better than the “college kids” at what they do, and we have a tendency to be wrong.Brickwall, ZVar, Blu_Ogre and 1 other person Thank this. -
I kinda disagree. All the megas today started as small trucking outfits and grew gradually over many decades, and yes, they are "going corporate" today. But if you want to talk about the corporate world "going trucking", then I'll point you to Amazon. But I predict they will abandon that concept soon enough once they learn all the realities of trucking in today's real-world environment, just as Walmart is abandoning the concept of having a large private fleet.

The majority of the management I've drive for has no driving experience. The companies I've worked for have been competent and cooperative despite/because of never having driven.WesternPlains Thanks this.

Honestly, of the dozen or so in dispatch and dispatch assistants we have, I don't think any have prior driving experience, but they are the best group I've ever worked with. And drivers here will work with them all as they empty from region to region.
I've had more bad experiences with "old driver dispatchers" than dispatchers with no driving experience.tscottme and WesternPlains Thank this. -
Can u imagine leaving a truck to go work in a cubicle? I can’t.
Brickwall, tscottme and WesternPlains Thank this. -
I actually had a Greek who was well.. lets write him off as a truly horribly che er employer.
I bought a small space heater for his cashiers booth which was unheated in those days. Then got yelled at for burning his electricity. I yelled back take 10 out of the pay and shut up. And things went downhill from there.
Me and my big mouth.
Some of that money went into some truly good meaty street greek food, hoagies out of Philly would be the closest to that thought. I learned that when you eat well, cold means nothing. Who needs a heater. HA. He did teach me something after all.
I'll show him, that old coot. Ive three oil heaters inside my unit that run when things get frosty here in the south.WesternPlains and buddyd157 Thank this.
