I agree. I’m not a people person enough to play the office game. I like my music all day, I like the outdoors..So my rolling home-office makes me happy.stwik and WesternPlains Thank this.

You’re forgetting that two hour break... and they just find a way to take it exactly when you need them because you didn’t get a BOL number for your reload and the shipper won’t let you in the gate and now you’re holding up the line.
No no no, don’t let me disrupt your lunch break go right ahead...WesternPlains and IluvCATS Thank this. -
That’s a good one. Half of what makes regular jobs a drag is the commute.
My dispatcher can do everything from home. Except for all the other stuff he does to keep the terminal working. Like chasing the jostlers out of the office and back to work. -
Just cut a hole in the floor to use for an outhouse?

I don’t think they will take kindly to doing that to their building. Much less a truck.

I guess, but imagine coming in on Monday morning, and 10 out of 20 drivers who were supposed to deliver in Seattle area that morning are crying from Ellensburg that they aint going because the chain lights are still on or the pass is still closed. In addition to another half dozen trucks scattered around who have their own new little "problems". A lot of cancellations, assigning to brokers, emails, and calls have to be made and a lot of revenue is lost, for everyone. Then those same drivers are calling and whining Tuesday and Wednesday wondering why they don't yet have a new load.
When they went home on Friday, all was peachy and everybody had a preplan assigned. Then come in on Monday morning, and all is crap. I want no part of dealing with 30 or 40 truck drivers unless they are all like me

Brickwall, tscottme, Blu_Ogre and 1 other person Thank this. -
Each time I left the truck and worked in offices I felt everyone was on top of me and the walls were closing in. The longer you drive the more you remember all the bad parts and SOME of the good parts. The longer you don't drive you remember the good parts and SOME of the bad parts.kemosabi49, street beater and IluvCATS Thank this.

Im local have been 99 percent of my career. But i wanted something to fall back on if something went sideways on the road. Not to mention the new system that was put in place right as i took dispatch, (the only reason we needed one) i was unwilling to work under some know nothing that thought he could come in and run a system in a city he doesn't know with customers he doesn't know. Call it concided but they knew if i didn't get i was gone.2Girls_1Truck and IluvCATS Thank this.
