Wait . It was running for a whole month before it ran out of fuel ?
Mine goes through 50 gallons in like 4 days....

I was saying 1000 gallons if they wanted to refreeze it and even then I dont think it would work.
I am pretty sure these units are not made to freeze thing but rather keep frozzen when allready at that point..

I could be wrong tho. I have been wrong before..

My post was based on info provided in news reports

"The driver abandoned the trailer at some point after Dixie River Freight Inc. refused his demands, and he left the frozen cargo worth $80,000 to thaw and then rot when the fuel for the trailer's refrigeration unit ran out.

The truck was discovered Tuesday, though Nampa police Sgt. Joe Ramirez said it may have been left there more than a month ago."

That's what I thought, that's an impossible dispatch if I've ever seen one.

Evidentally this truck stop can't be bothered to ask why a dropped trailer is in their yard several days in a row, how long can the reefer trailers run on a tank? I run dry, I am curious to know,,,,

It really depends on the temp of the load and how efficient the trailer is .

I have had loads at 20 degrees that a 50 gallon tank will go for about 5 or 6 days and then its all but empty.

If its set at say -10 and really hot out that nuber of days can be short .

I always try and fill mine at half tank tho.

some companies operate having the driver buy fuel on the way on their own and reimburse the driver later upon submission of receipts. perhaps this is a case where the driver signed up for the job, not expecting the costs to be more than he can finance- only to discover the fact en route. we are really only hearing the company's version (spin), which should be suspect seeing how they failed to report the incident much earlier. the question really is: is a drivers primary responsibility to himself (not bankrupting himself by not honoring a contract) or to the contract ? another question is- what would you do if you are working under such terms and you run out of cash/credit for fuel/food halfway to your delivery ? your company thinks you are lying and refuses to front even fuel charges ?
