That's true LTL company needs a lot more stuff.
Truck load all you need is a dirt lot somewhere and a desk a phone and a basement and a computer.
The guy sits in the basement on the computer and books loads from a board and has the drivers fetch the loads.

LTL more deliveries more paper work, tow motors, hand trucks, converts dollies, tractor trailer units. Straight truck units, much more goes into LTL.

    During the rec

That's right, I have personally observed the 'guy' booking the loads has no idea what the companies cost per mile is, never mind freight lane dynamics. These are key pieces of business information that management needs to know to profitably run the company. It's like they just put a bunch of loads on their trucks and hope for the best. Interesting business model. Lol

Your west coast but you still might know of this company. Panther Expedited truck. Before they were bought out by ABF they literally were started by a man and 4 guys who each owned there own Ford Econoline vans and literally the company started in the basement of a house in Medina, Ohio with a desk next to the hot water tank and a telephone and file cabinet.

I first became aware of Panther a number of years ago from listening to Arc Bests quarterly conference calls. Either i never noticed them before that or they really weren't that common on the I-5 corridor? I tend to see just as many Panther 53' trailers as I see straight trucks. Anyway, I was not aware of how they were founded, interesting story.

There head quartered in Medina, Ohio a lot of expedited truck companies FedEx Custom Critical, Panther, Hours and others some have since come and gone are from Ohio or Michigan I think a lot of it has to do with hauling last minute deliveries for the automotive industry.

Back in the day there was a group know as the TNT companies and this is coming from my neck of the woods the Cleveland*-Detroit and Ontario Automotive Belt.

TNT had an expedited division in the 80s and 90s known as TNT Taxi Truck and it was like a local expedited truck service.

Look it even has a taxi lamp on the roof. Rene Buron has the absolute best catalogue of TNT company stuff. Before there was YRC Glenmore and YRC Holland there was the TNT companies.

Taxi Truck offered non-stop pick up and delivery service so say it was a hot load and had to get there and was a short notice thing you just call the Taxi truck same as hailing a cab off the street and literally it would show up like a taxi cab, but for freight.

That's interesting, i never heard of the TNT Taxi Truck division. I thought I was aware of all the TNT holdings, I learn something new all the time. Out west all I ever saw was TNT Reddaway and Bestway.
