Mike is our resident transportation buff (geek). And he's way younger than the rest of us.

Thanks for all the cool history, @Mike2633 !

I don't know looking at pictures paying attention out in the world reading bits and pieces here and there. Learning where industries are and then figuring what those places would need.

I think next were going to do Cannon Express that'll be easy, but worth talking about.

Then will do TNT companies. TNT Companies was really what CF wanted to be CF was never as big as the TNT companies TNT companies they were world wide and truly were a department store of transportation. It's interesting these big huge mega companies and now there gone turned to dust, all there operating companies merged and broken up and dissintigrated.

Were a little ways away but we don't have much further to go with CF. The book stops in 1999 and were in year 1990 now so getting close.

Just curious did you ever read the book by Michael H. Belzer called Sweatshops on wheels the winners and losers in trucking deregulation? Despite the title being somewhat politically charged it really is a great read with tons of great information, I highly recommend it.

No I didn't know that existed thanks for the heads up I'll check it out.

My dad was an owner operator in the late 1980s and very early 1990s. Well actually he owned an Animal bedding business and they had 2 semi trucks and 3 dry van trailers and they also hauled some brokered freight loads.

Then he briefly worked for an RPS contractor RPS which is now FedEx Ground and then he quit trucking all together and went back to work for National Brush (former Union Carbide Company) Both of my parents worked for Union Carbide for a good chunk of there lives basically until Union Carbide went under and started selling off all there companies and divisions and then my parents worked at the different divisions.

Anyhow you get genetically predisposed to this stuff I guess, you know it gets in the blood ha-ha.

I was telling Katie yesterday we were at my house talking and she's a music teacher at a $14K a year in tuition girls school and I was telling her all about hauling steel coils and the difference between smooth bore and baffled tankers and it was cute she went "All that's good to know in case I ever start driving that's all handy information."

So that's how that all comes up. You know and I've shipped stuff to working in the office furniture parts industry so we dealt with mainly FedEx LTL and FedEx Ground, and I've dealt with Freightbrokers as a private citizen shipping things LTL freight so you know all that experience ads up.

Yeah once were done with CF here, definatly Cannon Express because they were one of the most prolific carriers of the 1990s and then TNT Companies and then after them maybe do a real quick expo-say on London Transport which was the double decker bus system in London, England back in it's glory days and non- of those will take as long as CF has, and then after that will get into Sweat Shops on Wheels.

I was talking about you this weekend, I was telling Katie about the time we went to Dirty Franks and it happened to be the same day as the gay festival she was saying that special interest groups should only get 1 color not get to hijack the entire rainbow it's very unfair to other special interest groups and rainbow fans ha-ha!

That's cool! It's nice to see someone interested in their industry, It always amazes me how little most drivers know about the industry they chose to work in.
