    Were any of those two trucks Cat powered by any chance? I seem to recall a CF driver tell me that some if not all of the COE's from the 1990's were Cat powered?

    Triple tractors were marked with a whit stripe on the front bumper. They were CAT powered.
    City power they added an extra digit when
    converted over from linehaul 116 or 110

    So Cat engines were only ordered in tractors that would be running line schedules in states where triples were legal?

    They were a captured fleet in the West and only used on triple lanes.

    The cab over had a 60 series series Detroit ...no sure about the century .

    The Detroits just could not maintain speed with that third trailer and Grossing 105,000 plus depending on which lane you were running.

    They must have been 11.1 Series 60's??? im sure the 6 or seven 7 transmission didn't help lol. The CF Cat 3406E powered trucks always surprised me considering the frugal way CF ordered trucks. it's my understanding that Cat engines were more money to initially purchase and then maintain when compared to a 12.7 Detroit S60 or a Cummins N14, that's why most fleets ordered them and shunned Cat.

    Hate to say it but those trucks were straight out of the barn and to des Moines ...no detail work at all and interiors were like right from the auction .
    The engine in the cab over was grease covered .

    The conventional was a 110 so it was a city unit and the cab over sleeper unit had been replaced by conventional sleepers and from the number 14 it was still being used in line-haul single man.
    The smaller city terminals usually were serviced by local vendors and if it were cleaned it was by who ever drove it.
    Where I was domiciled the shop did a good job of cleaning and repairing so filth was not much of a problem.
